We are in the middle of the flooding, but we are fortunate to live in a high-rise building. We can still function, but the flooding has caused us to cancel the shoots we had planned for the week. Hopefully this rain will stop soon and things will get back to normal. We do want to thank everyone who has sent us their well wishes during this time. Much appreciated.
I'm right at the corner of Hwy 290 & 610 (locals know where that is) in Houston, and we have no flooding in our area. I'm in a second floor condo, so never a problem there, but even our parking lot and culverts haven't flooded. Most stores are either closed or closing early every day, and many roads are unpassable. Rain is mostly spotty now (the Fox weather homepage has been saying it's "overcast" through the storms), with most of the bad stuff to our east.
CNN asked why we didn't evacuate the city, but anyone who lives around here and remembers the last mass evacuation (took me 12 hours on the dot to drive 170 miles on the highway - it's normally 2.5 hours) knows how nearly impossible that would be. Add the unending road construction/expansion (Hwy 290 West is down to two lanes for miles, with no shoulder), the flooding all around the region, lack of gas after Friday morning at many stations.... But it's Texas, and life goes on! Hope the rest of my gungebuds here and elsewhere are safe.
Myself and family are safe, my house and cars are dry although my immediate area had over 40 inches of rain (Friendswood) My dad was forced out due to significant flooding. It will be a long road to go but we will be supporting each other.
To our friends in Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Galveston, Corpus Christi & College Station. We're thinking of you and hoping things get back to some sense of normalcy in the days, weeks & months to come. #PrayForHouston
In Austin it wasn't too bad, at least in my part of town. I'd imagine some other parts got it worse, but on the whole we didn't get hit as hard as many other cities. Also, the rain didn't last near as long as originally expected. Still, there was some crazy wind on Saturday.
Houston is getting all the focus as usual because it's easier to report from a major city and media gets better ratings. I'm from and live in Victoria, TX, where the eye of the hurricane passed over... twice.
Glad my Houston friends are doing well. Since we have no running water or electricity in Victoria, I spent the last two days with my boat up in Houston evacuating people from their houses, attics and rooftops. It's a very bad situation for all of South Texas and the media can only show you so much. Houston is in a bad situation with flooding and the mass chaos it causes on the streets. I did notice this lately though - no color, no race, no gender, no hate on the streets.. just love!
Pray that all of South Texas gets back up and running soon - but again, we are Texans, we always do!
yes, everyone in texas we are all rooting for you! i know it must seem never ending and there will be so much to do after this is all over but like the song says "the storm is passing over" and it will and we will all be here to help!
i pray for all of you. i pray for everyone in the world but i have been praying especially hard for texas here recently. i cant imagine the fear and chaos and rain that just keeps coming. especially those with children, families. it breaks my heart but, stay strong and united, texas!! you got a whole united states backing you up!!
From your friends and neighbours to the North, know that concern for your condition and support for the challenges you are facing is not limited by the artificial borders of governments, and that we stand with you in your hours of challenge, loss and recovery. Severe weather, (trust the Canadians...we specialize in this), and other acts of nature know no boundaries, and neither should the response of humanity.
Please stay safe, and stay determined in the face of adversity.
Been thinking about y'all all week. My hometown of Nashville flooded in 2010, 31 died and it caused well over 2 billion in property damage, and we only had 14 inches (350mm) of rain. I can't even begin to comprehend what 40 inches of rain has done to south east Texas. Please, if you haven't already, donate to the relief fund in some way or text Harvey to 90999.
