If you post something on the internet (especially on Youtube), you have given the right to anyone and everyone to view your video. You cannot pick and choose who views your video unless you add privacy settings. You put it out there for EVERYONE. Linking to someone's video on this site is nothing more than sharing it via social media. You wanted people to see your video which is why you uploaded it in the first place. Unfortunately, you don't get to choose why people are watching your video. They could watch it to laugh with you, laugh at you, use you as an example for someone else as what not to do, sexual satisfaction, the list goes on and on. I agree we shouldn't allow videos with minors as that's a law enforcement issue but I see nothing wrong with linking to videos that someone posted showing adults.

I never said don't watch videos people upload, I said it was wrong to harass and intimidate them. The question isn't whether or not I should be allowed to view any content willingly uploaded to the Internet (excluding minors, etc) I was only trying to point out what others have known for awhile but there hasn't been a thread dedicated to yet, should we be sharing found content, even when our intentions are good, when we know that the bad seeds here are often harassi the uploader of said video.
Little bit of misunderstanding there. I thought you meant negative comments posted towards you for posting the video. Trolls and typically not nice people are all over the internet, not just here so if you post something on a public site whether it be a video, picture, or text post, you need to be prepared for trolls and unwelcomed feedback. It is unfortunate the way some (or lots) people act. I'm not going to stop using the internet because of trolls. They are responsible for their actions, not me.
The internet is what you make it. Some people post pictures and videos, some share those things, some use social media to communicate with friends and family, others use it to stalk ex-girlfriends. I could go on for days but I'm sure you get the point. To sum it up I'm trying to say its not your responsibility what other people do so I wouldn't not share a video because some idiot may troll or stalk that person. That risk came about the moment they uploaded the video on an open-to-the-public internet site.
Dr. Venkman said:There is one way to limit membership. MM could close open membership. Only way to join is by referral by an existing member that has to be looked over by a mod.
Unfortunately for that thought, most people ( I'd say) come here without knowing anyone. If I had needed a reference, I wouldn't be here. I knew no one here when I first started lurking, and eventually joined.
I've made a lot of good friends on here, and we've discussed a lot of things. But I wouldn't have gotten that chance to meet all these great people if I had to know someone to get involved.
Maybe a 90 day "trial membership", where the new member's posts are watched and the person's membership is cancelled if there's a problem, would help. And I do agree that a "member's only" UMD would keep out people who would cause problems, because they'd have to join for their "trial membership" before they could see anything.
