So if you took the worst cliches from The Terminator, The Matrix and sprinkle it with a little Blade you'd likely get this abortion that supposedly has won awards. I'm warning you, it sucks. Hopefully this is a one-off. The last thing we need is this crap replacing decent pie fights.
I didn't think it was so bad. There are ideas I'd like to see more of; throwing the pie on the ground the wrestling until the person's face winds up in it. It wasn't meant to be a WAM vid, but I'd only make three changes for my taste if it was:
1) get rid of all the men 2) people don't pretend to "die" on being pied and 3) face hits first, before any of that "belly" stuff.
I like the actresses in it, and other folks may enjoy all the men in it. (It takes different strokes to move the world.)
Also, as it was made 7 years ago, and to my knowledge didn't generate a lot of imitators or spinoffs, I'd hardly think of it as a genre.
I mean, as far as production value goes, this far exceeds any WAM video probably ever made. It had a plot, was scripted and had acting. "Special effects" like the cupcake grenade I thought were really good.
I haven't seen stuff like this since the days of MessyFun and Artscene/Aquantics.
Was it a good WAM video? No. Was it a fun concept with messy elements in it? Yes.
The concept of pie replacing weapons is straight from Bugsy Malone. I almost like the idea of adults doing that movie. However, it was a poor choice to hit center mass and completely abandon any attempt at a comedic reaction. This project fails either to be funny or exciting. Thankfully, I don't expect it to launch a new genre of disappointment.
I actually quite like it. the concept of death by pie is simply brilliant! ok no its not a wam video to our standards but its made pretty good given its a short film.

Exactly, it's not trying to follow all the tried and true rules of traditional slapstick. It's trying to be it's own completely different thing. When you look at it that way, the body shots make sense, they're not "pieing" each other, they're killing each other.
Now all I have to do is be the first time-traveler so I can go back to the day I posted these links and simply change the title to "A new kind of pie fight some of you will really like!" and compare comments.
