so? i got a 10 lb bag of bentonite clay powder...

and a 5 lb bag of kaolin clay powder.

i want the kaolin smooth and buttery.... and I would like the bentonite to be smooth as well but a little bit chunky....bc it will smooth out as we play (whoever does, check out my twitter for custom discounts that are insanely low!)

but? when you search google how to mix it? It doesnt really tell you how to mix it "wam style" ya know?

Ive worked with bentonite before but it was in a block and was a darker grey. This looks like a lighter grey. I wonder if i added some black (just a touch) of food coloring if it would get me a darker grey. hmmmm.....

anyone have some experience with how much I can make out of this and how? I would appreciate it! Its sitting here staring at me like "mix me!!!" ha!

Are you able to start with mixing just a small sample?

Make sure you wear a mask and are in a well ventilated area when mixing.

Not sure the exact amount of water you need to add, but Bentonite had the characteristics of increasing in volume when you soak it.. mix it the best you can with a drill. it will probably have some lumps a bit in the biggining, let it sit in your bucket for 24hr.. make sure it's got some water to absorb.. you might want to split your 10lbs in 2 buckets to give it room. Kaolin will have the right consistency as soon as you mix it.
As for the color.. pretty sure you can add black poster paint like in Methyl slime

I have some methyl gunge (clear) from messy supplies....I wonder how that would look when added to the bentonite clay once it is smooth....or the kaolin clay since it mixes to smooth! hmmmm....

I also still have a bag of fake mud a friend brought me to vegas and gifted me! He said it was enough to fill a tub with...I wonder how that would look with methyl too?

anyhoo...back to the real clay. thanks for the advice! both of them are in powder form. I have never bought clay in powder form. its either been in blocks or in a smooth form from a big jug (my god that shit is expensive but really easy to use....its literally ready right out of the jug!)

also? I have heard you need to add salt to kaolin or bentonite? is this to make it thicker or help it smooth out? or is this just an old tale? or something I made up in my head?
