I'm so excited. I finally managed to get the 200 kilos (440 pounds) of clay for my new mud pit at home!!!
I can't stop thinking about all the possibilities, and I must admit I have high expectations for this clay.
I'm very excited, but I have no idea how to use that amount of clay without ruining everything in the process. I've been trying to find some information on the forum about how to start my first mud pit, but I haven't had much success.
What should I do? How do I start? What should I definitely NOT do! I have a great warm temperature so I can use the pit year-round. How long will my sludge pit last?
I hope you can help me with some tips and suggestions. I know there are several experienced producers here. Your comments will surely be very helpful!
Both the girls and I are so excited to get completely covered in that mud, we can't wait to do some customs!
Hello Bagheera, excellent news about the mud pit!! Can't wait to see you and the girls mud wrestling .
My wife and I recently set up a mud pit in our outdoor area. We used 3 camping mattresses as our base, put hay bales around them to form a good perimeter and then used a heavy duty plastic tarp to line it. We used a mix of bentonite clay and pottery clay which has an awesome texture and feel to it. We think 8 inches of mud is the minimum depth, you can get properly messy and is deep enough for a proper head dunking.
We have a weekly mud pit session, and have had some mud wrestling parties with several people and the pit has held up well, do need to keep it covered when not using and the clay does need topping up due to loses with showering and cleanups. The border made of hay bales has proved popular as it gives spectators somewhere to get close and sit, and the loser can be bent over it for a spanking, or something a little more X rated .
