Whenever I do a messy session (especially with pies), one thing I almost always prefer is a bit of music to go with it. There's a lot of songs that are just perfect for getting messy to. Maybe you all reading feel the same way. If so, I would love to hear what songs you prefer to get messy to. But, for those curious, here are 10 songs (more or less...well, more) I feel are perfect for WAM.
1. The Pie in the Face Polka (Henry Mancini [The Great Race Soundtrack])
For music and WAM, this was an obvious choice, so I decided to knock it out early. The PITFP is just the perfect pie fight song. The prelude has the perfect build up of pressure, the main melody conveys a lot of silly energy, there's a lot of variation in the instrumentation, and it's all wrapped up in a perfect climax. It's a song one could dance to as well as get clobbered with pies. I only wish there could be more songs dedicated directly to pie throwing the way this one is. For a long time, the soundtrack recording version of the song was the only real one available on YouTube. But recently, the extended theatrical version has surfaced. I'd definitely give both a listen.
2. "Nothing is as Funny as a Pie in the Face" (unknown)
Maybe forum members can help me identify this one. On YouTube, there is a music video cut from what looks to be from a kids show from the late 80s or early 90s. It features three clowns performing a lively, bouncy song about pie throwing with some very hilarious lyrics. It's currently uploaded by a user named Robert Paulson (probably not the famous VA, but you never know) as "Clown Girls Pie Face." No one knows what show it's from and the user won't respond with where he got it. But, wherever it's from, it's a fantastic theme for pie throwing.
3. "Pie in the Face" (Soupy Sales Show [Album 1961])
Huge thanks to Rich from Slapstickstuff for introducing me to this one. He's used it in a few of his videos (including my favorite with one of his Brittney models). This one is a tune with almost a Broadway feel to it. Getting or giving a pie in the face to this song is simply a superlative feeling. It's a very bouncy number that's perfect for getting messy to.
4. "Over the Waves" (Sounds of the Circus South Shore Concert Band [Volume 6])
For those looking for something a bit slower, this number is perfect. It's a slow, lovely melody that I imagine was made more for tightrope walkers and watching something slow yet intense take place. There's a lot of repetition in this song and it has many parts with a build-up created by a drumroll followed by a climax with a crash of cymbals. If you want to really build up suspense with your partner--teasing them with a pie and letting them not know when they're gonna get it, this is the perfect song to accompany that to.
5. "Entry of the Gladiators" (Julius Fucik)
This one is another obvious choice. As wammers, let's face it, we're all partly clowns. And the universal anthem of clowning is perfect for accompanying with pies, slime, etc. It has the perfect build up at the beginning, an unforgettable melody, and just the perfect energy for messy slapstick. It's also a very versatile piece: whether by an orchestra, a calliope, or synth--this song sounds fantastic. If there's a specific version you prefer, let me know in the comments.
6. "Summit Avenue Rag" (Richard Dworsky [from "A Prairie Home Companion"])
Another less energetic, yet still hilarious number is Summit Avenue Rag. This has a very early 1900s/1920s feel to it--perfect for a low-key pieing or piefight. It's one of those songs that feels plucked from a silent film: a classic, old-school number.
7. "Hot Honey Rag" (from the musical "Chicago")
Also a very 1920s number but at a very fast pace, Hot Honey Rag is the kind of song to put on when you or your partner decides to wear a flapper costume and is good at dancing. The whole song builds up towards a grand climax at the end: the perfect moment for pie or slime. I know such a situation is very specific for using the song, but it is very effective in said situation.
8. Various clown songs ("Stop it" [Sounds of the Circus South Shore Concert Band]/ "Clowns Miss Trombone (a slippery rag) [The Great American Mainstreet Band]/ "Clowns Walking Frog" (two-step) [The Great American Mainstreet Band]/ "Clowns the Booster" (an American Absurdity Rag) [The Great American Mainstreet Band]/ "Clowntime" [Network Music Ensemble]/ "Clowning Around" [Network Music Ensemble]/ "Vaudeville" [Network Music Ensemble])
A long list, I know! But from plumbing the depths of circus concert music to made-for-stock numbers, these were, in my opinion, the best songs for clowning around with pies to. This is especially true for the one "Clowning Around." It carries a manic, wild energy perfect for a fun, wild pieing.
9. "Merry Go Slower (distressed) / "Plucky Daisy" / "Barroom Ballet" / "Fig Leaf Times Two" [Kevin Macleod]
From the master of internet stock-music comes four expertly made background tracks that will make you feel like an actor in a silent comedy. Each of these has their own distinct melody that all equally feel appropriate for getting messy to in an old-fashioned way.
10. "Zingoz Pie Throw Game Music" [Unknown]
This is another "lost media" pie song I'd appreciate being able to find the official version of. This was the background song to the Webkinz web game "Wacky Zingoz Pie Toss." It had a goofily plucky and upbeat rhythm that was very appropriate for throwing and receiving virtual pies. You can find a playthrough on YouTube uploaded by kas10900 which showcases the song well. But I'd really want to find a version that's just the song without sound effects. I know WebKinz used a lot of internet stock-songs for their games, so I still have hope of one day finding it in its original form.
Extra: I have been looking for a song Rich used in one of the Slapstickstuff previews. It also sounds like a Soupy Sales song, but I cannot find it online. I think it is called "Im a Funny Guy." Anyway, I'd really appreciate finding it.
Honorable mentions:
"There is a Tavern in the Town Instrumental" if you've ever learned the camp song "There are no bananas in the sky", this is your go-to pie song.
"Five Ways to Pie Someone" this one was made by one of the sites/producers here on the UMD, but I don't remember which. I think it was MessyWorld.Net, but I'm not sure. Anyway, it's a nice little diddy with a cool video that goes along with it.
Daddles said: Great to see some appreciation for music for pies, especially of the circus variety. They sure nail the atmosphere and tone of light hearted silly.

Here's a few of my favs. Your list is pretty conclusive an full of classics though!
A WAM challenge I once set myself was getting messy against the clock - in particular how much mess (trifles/cakes) I could stuff in my underwear in one minute.
As my clock the obvious choice was the game music from Funhouse which is exactly 1 minute long and serves as a timer.
The Funhouse theme was easy to find, but the in game music not so much, but I do have a copy and I'll usually play it on loop during that type of WAM session so that I can carry on getting messy even when I run out of time, and of course so that in a way I can "rerun the fun"!
In Robby's vein: I'm Getting Sedimental Over You Bobby Darin's Cream Lover Ray Charles' Mississippi Mud Jim Croce's "You Don't Mess Around With Jam." Led Zeppelin's "Custard Pie" Commodores' "Slippery When Wet" and for classical music fans: Bach's Mess in B Minor
My wife made a playlist for herself in phone so when we wam she puts it on. Ironically she choose Def Leppard "pour some sugar one me" And she loves sprinkles so she asks for me to dump them on her after I've given her all the pies and gunge
And I added pat benatar "hit me with your best shot" cause she is the first person that lets me full out throw the pies at her face
I was gonna say the obvious choice would be Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me" but it looks like luvs2pie beat me to the punch.
Also, somewhat relevant to this, but this topic reminded me of a time I did a solo shaving cream pie session in a private shower room in my college dorm and to try and mask any noise I may have been making I listened to the entirety of Gorillaz (their self-titled album) while turning myself into the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man
All this cake, there must be a princess somewhere.
