My dream WAM experience has always been mud. The downside of this is that I live in Southern California, where everything is always dry. If by any miracle, anybody knows any mud pits in Southern California, let me know.

How far are you from Lake Tahoe? Otherwise SE of LA there are a couple lakes, and a big one east of San Diego. They may be your best bets.

Some worth the trip can be found on the SE shore of Salton Sea mud volcanoes area.

Salton sea has some promise it looks like, however the gases emitting are something to keep in mind there. I could see my self checking it out one day.

Your best option is the "new" Salton Sea mud volcanoes but because they are hot, you will need to use the one on the side of the pond immediately south of the main field. The gate is usually locked so there will be a walk...
