Hey everyone, my wife and I have our anniversary coming up and I ordered 2 of the 100 liter mega packs of gunge for us to play in from messy supplies. We have played in gunge many times but I've only purchased smaller packs and mixed them in a bucket. Does anyone have any tips for mixing the mega 100 liter packs of gunge? It will be going in a pool. Thanks
I'll mention this so you don't accidentally fall in the same hole. This is the only time I've royally screwed up a batch of MS gunge.
Mixing a 10L pack with only a few liters of water caused it to set into a solid dough that was unable to absorb any more water. Might be useful as a modelling clay but useless for messy play.
I've never done the 100L packs before- if I did then my approach would be to split it into 5x 20L mixes and use a paddle mixer in a drill. Use a 30 or 40L bucket to stop it slopping over the sides! (MessySupplies also sell these attachments)

Congratulations on your anniversary!
How would you split it up? Would you use a scale to weigh out the different amounts?

I'd just eyeball it. MS gunge isn't overly fussy about water content unless you go to the very extreme end of super thick. If you're wanting to get each bucket about the same, put the powder in a measuring jug and gently shake so it sits level or just pour it out into 5 cups/plates/whatever.
You could mix different thicknesses of gunge, which'll give your pool some hidden sticky spots when you first get in.
Hi, for the best results you will need a paint mixer or drill mixer (I believe both of these are available on MessySupplies.com)
You need to mix all in one go. So, find a container that will fit 100 litres of water, (or if you need to split, then measure out half the powder and split 50/50 between containers to mix).
Step 1: Fill the container with 100 litres of warm water (around 'bathwater' temperature).
Step 2: Begin your mixing device so the water is rotating fast.
Step 3: Empty the entire quantity of powder all in one go whilst mixing. Literally, turn it upside down into the container. Just be careful not to drop it or spill any.
Step 4: Watch it turn to gunge in 30 seconds to 1 minute. Then when you feel it is thick enough for what you want, stop your mixing device.
Step 5: Leave to settle and naturally thicken for 5 minutes (the longer you leave it, the thicker it tends to get).
Step 6: Have Fun!!!
The entire process should take no longer than about 5 minutes.
If you don't have a powered mixing device to hand, then I would advise splitting and mixing in 10-litre buckets either by hand or with a paddle/large spoon, then pouring into your pool.
For mixing in small 10-litre buckets, we empty the powder into a dry bucket, then pour 10 litres of warm water onto it fast, then mix like there is no tomorrow. Again, you'll have Gunge in 30 seconds
