Hello fellow messers!

Now I have been attempting to locate any studios which will accommodate messy shoots and private hires in the UK and I have not found very many.

So I thought I would pop a message here to find out if anyone can suggest or recommend any places and perhaps we can collate a list of venues here?
I would even consider hotels etc which have good bathroom spaces!

Have you tried Leon Moomin or Candy Custard?

I know Satine has been to "Candyland" several times. Northish of London I think.

The Moomins (MostWam) are a good pick and are somewhere between Wales and Cornwall.
Leonmoomin, Lisamoomin, MessyAl, and MostWam Leia are your contacts there.

DungeonMaster1 might be up for it, he's pretty far north but below Scotland if I remember.

Messyworld.net/Liquid X might be down too, I don't remember where they are geographically.

They're all the ones I can really think of that have devoted studios and probably a good start.

As a good wam historian, Potatoman, you may recall Satine has been to The Moomins's Mostwam home with myself, as Satine was one of the Slymsford models in the 'Mostwam & Slymsford' collaboration videos, filmed at Moomin headquarters.

But Satine makes a good point...there aren't many wam studios....a collated list of studios available to producers or models seems an excellent idea.

I think options are a bit limited if you're looking for somewhere to do photoshoots AND sessions.

You're probably going to end up in someone's converted garage. If you're set on it and plan to do a lot of messy work, and you have your own garage, maybe convert it to make it suitable. Your part of the country is not well catered for, as far as I know, so you could clean up. Pardon the pun.

Quite an expense at first, but you save in the long run.

I feel like a mega jerk because I actually completely forgot about that...

This! He's very active and a friend of Candy's. He's also a site host.

I built one before in my former home. It's not that difficult if you have the space.

Right before the pandemic period I had been planning to set up a new studio but I realised it would need to be somewhere more centralised (I'm already even further west than Mostwam).

I've got the technical competence to do it but I'm not sure now that any kind of business reliant on person to person contact is anything but at massive risk (although there's clearly a recreational demand) At the very least it's now subject to heavy regulation that I don't think now will ever truly go away.

I've considered creating my own, mobile studio facility.

So some updates:

MessyWorld DO have a studio available for hire - 1 in Devon/Cornwall border and 1 near Plymouth but for note - they book for published work ONLY.

I may have to take a look though!


I have been told of a possible studio that allow WAM in St Leonards, UK - anyone know anymore info on this one? x

Splosh used to be based down Hastings / St Leonards way, but obviosuly that's long-gone, unless someone has started a new studio.

We've pulled out of the dungeon hire business, partly due to timewasters and partly because anything that depends on customers and models and supplies all co-ordinating at the same time is just asking for trouble, realised it's much simpler and less stress to just shoot our own scenes with models, would be up for shooting with you for Saturation Hall some time if you like though.

I think that refers to the Splosh! studio run by the late Bill Shipton.
It staggered on for a short while after his death, under different management, but the financing dried up and the studio closed for good some 5+ years ago.

Has anyone tried the Facility in the West Midlands?

I don't know if they'd be happy with sploshing but I believe they have a shower and a rough dungeon. They hire out either for private parties or shoots. Probably no good for an event with only one shower but for a photo shoot might be workable. At least worth contacting them to ask unless somebody else here has already tried?
