Frankly I don't know how anyone can run an amateur site in the age of global instantaneous communications. But I salute all of you who do it!

Hosting isn't cheap so they may not had deleted things out of fear of people finding the site, it may just be that they didn't want to keep paying to host a site that isn't making any money.

I agree with Leila on this one. Allthough I have to admit I don't know their reasoning. Keeping a site like thius up and running costs money for hosting, domain, licenses etc. (and still some time every once in a while to keep software up to date). If you don't update on a site like this, revenues quickly drop towards zero, because no update means no visibility (unless you pay for adverts to keep traffic coming). So I economically speaking it's a very reasonable decision to also take the site offline once you stop updating.
