Even years ago, there was some article (Rolling Stone?) where the writer made a looooong point of mentioning just how AVERAGE Katy looked before she put on the 2 pounds of makeup, wig, etc.
Also, to add insult to insult: Her only assets that are NOT average are well-hidden in this clip.

Does every model you film arrive to the door looking like a Playboy cover girl?

Haha, of course not... BUT with a few exceptions over the years, I've learned that it's worth the extra time to make sure the model looks her best for makeup, hair, etc. Some look pretty great already (Breana!) and some look DRASTICALLY different when the makeup is gone (SS80/81 Britney, who looks like a different person at the end of her scenes vs. the beginning). That's just the nature of the game, especially when you're working with fantasies.
I think I'm overly annoyed by this because, of all the "hot" female celebrities bandied about over the years, Katy Perry was towards the top of my list. Because of both her look and her persona. And yes, she had that great "slime cannon" moment... But she's also had a lot of near misses.
Imagine this clip... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QmLq3KdShA ...if she'd gotten a full faceful of cake, and then done that same stumbling and slipping on stage with her face still covered in frosting. Or the one where she pies a (male) backup dancer.... Imagine if she'd ended her performance by getting clobbered with pies by the OTHER dancers?
THAT was what I wanted when Katy Perry finally had a true pieing/caking. THIS... is about 1/1000th of that.
there was a behind-the-scenes video (a brief segment) for one of her music videos. She needed a lifecast, because her character was going to be an old woman.
It is what it is, but at least the game keeps pieing into a dialogue (even if it's just a dab of cream it can get people talking). I think this continues to show Katy's willingness to be messy for fun times/projects. It was a private family event so she could've dictated that no one was allowed to share photos/video. There's certainly plenty of celebs who would do that and would be mortified if something like this was presented online for all to see (assuming they'd even do it at all). Katy just needs the right project to get a good pieing. If this were the 70s she'd have easily been on a variety show where a good pie could occur.
i did not mean to be too harsh on Ms. Perry...whose stage look is always super cute/glam and sexy....she's probably semi-cute looking from day to day (she looks 'plain' in these pics)...
...but as to Happy Camper's question....well, not a "playboy cover girl"...but def cute/pretty...that is why I only ever selected models that were cute (to me) without makeup (knowing that they would look ever better with makeup on)...and why I always met with potential models before I chose to shoot with them....wanting to see what they really looked like (plus gauge their personality, which was a factor in how enjoyable/smooth/low-maintenance the shoot would be, for me)...
I don't mean to offend anyone here (producer or model), but if I don't find the girl model attractive, the wam part (pie or slime) does nothing for me.
