Huh, deleted one message and it vanished!

I think this is something left over from the issues with notifications, I had it claiming I had three new messages when there weren't any, that then jumped up to nine, but then cleared when I answered one of my actual messages.

I had 8, then 15, now none.

I had similar issues for a few days but seems ok today in that regard. However, the site is now oh-so-slow , leaving things till tomorrow hoping for normal speed.
