I know the Rita "Oops" scene hasn't surfaced. It's even harder to find because the version I saw as a kid was cut... The "original" version runs longer and gets Rita even messier. And the "Pie In The Face" gameshow is the one where cast members stick their heads through holes in the wall (I think)... I've never seen that one, only heard about it.
The water scenes on EC never impressed me as a kid. There was a GREAT soaking of Linda on Sesame Street though... I think it might be on one of your cliptapes actually? Pretty sure that's how I saw it again.
I seem to remember something like that "Pie in the face gameshow." I always thought it was a dream and really didn't remember it until you mentioned it here. If I remember it correctly there were 3 contestants. They stuck their heads through the holes and had to answer questions. If the got it wrong a pretty lady in beautiful gown and long gloves would push a pie into their face. If this wasn't my dream....I'd sure like to see it again!
On the subject of waiting patiently for 'lost' material to come up, the press releases for the BBC's new download store talks about it including many shows that have never been commercially released in the past. Some possibilities there, perhaps, for British material.
I would not have high hopes for finding the rare UK tv shows with wam scenes on the BBC's new Download Store venture. For one thing, their download store which is in beta test mode now and will officially launch this summer....is going to be incredibly TINY in the amount of content they plan to carry. Their press release says that they plan to build their store with 10,000 hours of content. Just to give you some idea of how small that is, I have over 3000 hours of content on my Megastore site alone and another 1000 hours of media on my other download stores, and Leon has way more content on his sites that I do, and so does Flaviu....so this huge conglomerate called the BBC can't even muster a store that is bigger tha 3 small timers like me, Leon and Flaviu....so their venture is really tiny when you consider that Netflix and Amazon Instant Video have over 100,000 hours of content on their sites. Moreover, the BBC also announce that to watch the downloads you will need to use their VOD player, which is a subtle way of saying that they will encode all their files with DRM tools so the files will not play on other players, which is the case with their BBC iPlayer system downloads.
The much better source for finding rare UK shows was the UK satellite channel called UK Gold that airs many vintage and rare UK shows originally from the BBC. I am pretty sure that if this new BBC downloads site is so tiny and only has 10,000 hours of content, that all we will be seeing with be the same old shows everybody has seen before...i.e. Doctor Who, Keeping Up Appearances, Are you being Served, etc....because the reality is...the rarest UK shows do not exist in the BBC Archives at all, because they stupidly erased most of their old recordings made in the 50's 60's and 70's....and so the only time rare UK shows show up today is when somebody is lucky enough to find a discarded tape at a flea market or car boot sale...or...as is the case with recently found lost episodes of Doctor Who, they are not found in the BBC Archives, but found in some dusty back rooms of tv stations in Hong Kong or Australia who kept copies of UK shows that the BBC later erased.
Sir Pies a Lot, thanks for the NYT link. Edie Adams at the point in her life seemed unhappy with the career choices she made, especially turning down "Candide" for "Lil Abner."
And, remember $500K was a fabulous amount of money in 1962 and most of it owned to the IRS. She had to go to UCLA and get an accounting degree to even begin to understand the shell companies Kovacs set up.
