The size of the pie matters for coverage as well. The close up of the pie is just showing the size. The second picture was pie number 2 out of 3 as they gave the best coverage before Bailey wiped her face.
I know I'm off on a limb here, but to me the ultimate pieing that all others should aspire to is the initial hit on the woman's bottom in Battle Of The Century, done almost a hundred years ago.
I will never understand the pies in the face. Why waste all that beautiful splatter on someone's face when you could put it on their clothes, to much messier result, instead? Consistency. It splashes but also has gloopiness so it holds together on the back of her dress after the hit, a deliciously sloppy mess.
