I agree. There are five years worth of teens (13, 14,15,16, and 17) who are under-age and only two (18 and 19) who are of legal age. Most people, in particular those outside our community, will think of "teen" as referring to the entire 13 to19 range or perhaps more likely the school-age range. IMO we don't want to give anyone the opportunity to complain that our producers are making videos with models who are younger than 18. We may know that we mean 18- and 19-year olds but outsiders will NOT be aware of that distinction.
I don't understand the issue. This is already a pretty weird sexual fetish, where could it possibly get misconstrued?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't "teen" a common (and popular) genre in traditional porn sites? I'm not really a browser of those sites so I haven't been up on every detail of the overhauling that industry has seen over the past couple of years, but if users there are still searching "teen" and those producers are still providing "teen" content then you're going to keep seeing that word thrown around here. Especially as producers old and new continue turning WAM into "regular porn, but with a little bit of whipped cream thrown in."

I say that in jest - sorta - but let's be real. You and I and everyone else here knows that in the context of porn, "teen" has a long history of meaning 18-19 year olds, or anyone young who looks like they could be 18-19 years old. We as a culture have established 18 as the cutoff; you can't get mad about someone wanting to see something that is legally acceptable just because it's *close* to the cutoff. If being close to the cutoff age was off-limits as well, then we'd just move the cutoff age up. Then #21 would be a porn category and you'd come in and complain about that too.

I do get a little bit of an uncomfortable vibe from seeing "teen" in descriptions, and it's not something I look for. But then every other aspect of people's appearance can also be described in shorthand terms, it's kind of standard practice across the whole adult industry, and this site is one of the best around at checking up and acting on anything of actual concern.

TBH if a producer uses descriptions you're not keen on, don't buy from that producer, and/or let them know privately why you're no longer buying. And include proof you are an actual customer (former username or download purchase detail) so they know you're not just some random who's taken umbrage - I've occasionally had messages from people who claim they'll cancel their membership if we continue shooting X or Y that they don't like - but they never include anything to indicate they were ever a member in the first place so those messages get ignored and filed in the nearest bin.

If anyone is concerned about anything, click the "Report" link on the post, or on the download itself, select a suitable category from the options (note there's now a general "Needs Attention" for use if the item doesn't fit obviously into one of the others), type a description of what you think is wrong, and submit it.

The staff here do a pretty good job keeping things adult. I don't think there are many people here who see the word teen and think underage.

I'll just say that I don't like how the term "woke" has been vilified and villainized, but that's another topic altogether. Anyway, I can understand the concerns using the word "teen" might raise, but I think it's clear that it's meant for 18 and 19. I doubt it will lead to any problems with UMD, given the ID requirement and all.

Is the word 'teen' on UMD specifically that big a selling point? And if so, why is that?
I've bought content here with models who later on were advertised to be 'teens' in later videos staring them--I had thought them older. My already moderate discomfort was compounded by this becoming a selling point where I'd seen earlier content with them seemingly do well without this needing to be highlighted, simply because the earlier video was a solid release. I'm not saying an 18 or 19 year old can't be exceptionally mature compared to legal adults of US drinking age--I'm simply showing where my own discomforts and boundaries tend to lie for discussion, and trying to highlight the dissonance, confusion and...honestly sometimes outright squik I feel in seeing someone's teenageness not only being a selling point in wider porn, but even more particularly on a niche fetish platform.
UMD has historically struggled with retaining more marginalized members in the forums and I think the way some handle conversations like this are part of it. Telling op to shove it or making a flippant joke of this post I don't think really helps anyone, where Jayce and DungeonMasterOne at least delved into the utility of the language in a way that I'm uncomfortable with but is communicative and thorough. Thank you both and others for engaging earnestly even though it's from a place that I struggle with. I hope my reply to this thread also provides some valuable thoughts and hope folks engage with me earnestly and patiently.

I kinda see both sides of it. "Teen" has a specific meaning - someone who is between the ages of 13 and 19. The minimum age to be on UMD in any capacity is 18. Thus, you can certainly be a teen and be on UMD, but that overlap is small. Of course to all regular users, this shouldn't be a problem, but it's not like it takes much for some political nutjobs to see a few things out of context and kick up a moral panic. Of course, that's one of the very reasons that Messmaster and the other modmins cover their arses with the whole age verification thing.
As for the whole "woke" thing, I don't think it even applies here. Conservatives are just as bad, if not worse, about wanting to police sexual expression. There is nothing woke about being a puritan.

There IS a certain irony to this discussion here, considering that the very origin of UMD.net came about by virtue of the reaction of Messmaster to a previous site called "WallowWorld" and it having photos posted of what was supposedly a girl who was under 18 getting muddy on their site. It's been a long time ago and I am not 100% sure of all the details, but this site was created as a place where that sort of thing was not going to be allowed so as not to draw the Eye of Sauron upon the rest of the WAM fetish.
So I do get the point of those who consider it as either a marketing tool or as only referring to those 18 and 19 year olds who are legal to be featured here, but I can also see the point that this term might also draw some unwanted and unwarranted attention from those whose job it is to seek out those who are trying to involve children in what is an adult fetish site. And since that is NOT the case here and has never been since it began (and I have been around here off and on since the beginning) then I can accept the desire to lean to the side of caution with tap dancing in that particular minefield.
