How much does scene length matter when purchasing WAM videos?
Whether it be something you've been looking forward to, or something you just happened to stumble across.
Could be a favorite model of yours or one you've never tried/is new to you.

My opinion would be depending on the scenario.. The scenes at your store need to be to support a script, and should be as long as needed for your production. While other scenes not all are simply non scripted, and just straight up WAM. Then clearly they will be shorter.
Just for the record, you guys are doing great. I love the scenes and substance textures, and models you use. Keep up the great work

A good questionbut tough to answer.
For me cost does play some role as well. If I'm gonna drop $20 (or close to that or even more on rare occasions) on a vid I would expect it to be at least 10 minutes (give or take) long. However sometimes they can almost be too long. I mean $9.99 for 40 minute video seems like a great deal but am I really gonna "watch" for 40 minutes. For me I would say that 8-20 minutes is that sweet spot, depending on price. Of course there's always some vids that are only 5 minutes and are must haves due to a particular model or costume or substance used. Content trumps length but it's nice to feel like you're getting your money's worth too.

I guess it depends on the scene. If I'm getting exactly what I want, a shorter scene is alright. I'm pretty vocal about this, but when watching a scene, I love the initial impact, and seeing clean hair become messy, and I adore reactions and some eye contact...but about 90% of videos have a brief shot of the slime hitting, and then the model looks up and takes a face full of slime, and that just kills it for me...and I'm not interested again until the face is wiped clean. Then we have other videos that do what I like, but then the camera randomly pans away from the models face and hair to the floor or the feet...sometimes raunchy videos start off great, but then they get...well...raunchy and we're getting close ups of lady parts and you're not seeing the models face again...Then there's pies, a pie in the face is he same as looking up and taking face full of slime to me, not into it. I get it, it's all about trying to cater to everyone's special kinks in one video to make more sales. Now there are some scenes that are longer that hold my interest throughout, but most of those have been my customs haha. So basically longer can be better, or it can be bad...I mean it kind of sucks having a bigger video file when you're only interested in a couple seconds of the video, but at the same time, you have more chances to get what you're into. Also on the other hand if you have a longer video where you're consistently getting to see what you like, then hey, why not?

The chances are when someone watches a video, as mentioned above, they're probably only going to watch 5 to 15 minutes of it - the old joke that if anyone's watching the end credits of a porn movie its failed in its objective. 
However, with a longer scene you have more choice of which 5 minute section you're going to enjoy on any particular viewing, the first time you view it you might only watch the first 5 minutes, but on a subsequent viewing, skip forwards to 10 minutes in to enjoy a particular section, say where a second model, still clean, first sits on something messy.
There's also a general rule that in erotica, the price should generally be $1 per minute of footage. So if a scene is only 8 minutes long but priced at $20, many people will assume its bad value and not purchase. There are situations where you can charge more, say two models in full latex, you could probably charge $20 for 10 minutes, because genuine latex is rare in WAM films. But then again, it's fairly easy to make a two-person scene at least half an hour long without really trying, and then you get the "viewer can watch different sections each time" effect benefits too, so there's no real advantage in shooting artificially short scenes.
Having said all that, in my case length isn't usually something I pay much attention to when making purchse decisions, things like clothing style (low-rise clothes == no sale), or camera angles (can't see the models legs getting messy == no sale) are the big issues for me. Fetish scenes generally sell when several trigger factors for a given viewer all line up, things like scene length or $ per minute will then tend to be secondary factors, though something that's great value on top of having lots of triggers will generally help.

My scenes just keep getting longer and longer, and I'm not sure why that is. (Well, I know why that is. I write longer scripts with more gags and more mess and linger more on the aftermath.)

She's fresher, I'm not scrambling, and I also tend to pack a LOT more into those 1-2 scenes.
Mya comes in to shoot one scene at a time and I basically pull out all the stops, and typically we wind up with about 75-90 minutes worth of raw footage for ONE SCENE. Editing that down to just 20 minutes (plus outtakes) actually takes some effort!

I know my library isn't as extensive as yours but in just the short time we have been making videos, I have noticed mine have also gotten longer. I know we try to elaborate more on a script and add lib where do. Not to blame my wife here but she has really grown into making up her own storylines and has almost the rest of our year planned out for weekly released scenes - all revolving around a fun holiday or current event.
But yes I think we are always pushing ourselves to do better and bigger than the time before. I know TMTFTS gets more messy every scene! We love it!
Something that I find a lot of producers aren't super-transparent with is what actually composes the length of a clip. For example, a clip might be advertised as being 25 minutes long, but when I buy the clip, I find that maybe 5 minutes of the clip is the actual scene, 5 minutes is the same scene from an alternate angle, 7 minutes are super-slow frame-by-frame instant replays of the action, 4 minutes is of out-takes, and 4 minutes is of a post-scene shower.
Some producers will tell you that the clip includes outtakes, wash-off, replays, etc., but rarely do they tell you how long each bit is, so it is occasionally frustrating to buy a 25 minute clip that contains a majority 15-20 minutes of extras.

You're right, the described behavior is pretty annoying.
Length of Scene, Pricing of Scene, and Actual Value of Scene are unrelated. I voted somewhat in the poll, as there's more to it that JUST scene length.
Theoretically you could shoot a model sitting for 20min and throw one pie and that's a scene. (A scene I probably would only buy once unless it was of exceptional quality, and I connected to it in some way. But most likely I'd never buy at all.
Much like Theatrical productions, Content is King and if you don't like the content, 5min of it vs 40min of it really won't matter in the end.
Same can be said for Cost. If your not entirely sold by the Marketing or Previews Pics, charging $5 for it vs $20 doesn't make it more attractive, just less expensive.
There's also something extra to the idea of building a Brand and having a Track-Record.
Much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where they've created a Content Machine that people/customers are willing to trust due to factors like Quality, Performance, and Previous Enjoyment, Producers like Messygirl (or yourself) are building the Brand not only with with Popular repeated Scenarios (like Human Garbage Disposal or Fluff Statues) but repeat experienced Models who are not only well-liked yet give great performances as well as work well with production.
Part of the problem with a lot of Scenes that looked good initially is that the Model just never connects with the concept or the experience in the time allotted. It's just a job, they're not having fun, and it shows.
Part of the reason The Man and the Wife Videos are so enticing (especially since you produce in the PG-Realm) is that The Wife is IN on the joke. She gets it. (and her friends do too) and it seems like they're down to play.
There's a Slapstick element, an element of Comeuppance , a Humiliation element, punishment element. a playful/silly element, a Dom/Sub element, a power-reversal element, etc.
Obviously they all know what they're in for by now, but they continue to apply painstaking detail in creating their various looks, outfits, etc. to end up being slimed/pied in unique amusing scenarios.
So if you put the same quality of work and attention to detail into a shorter scene, It's value would more than likely be the same as a longer one.
Of course, like others have said, longer scenes tend to pad the runtime with Bloopers, BTS, Showers anyways. so again, length doesn't really mean what you might initially assume so it's a bad metric overall. IMHO

I'd be happy with any additional content that I can't create myself (another good angle - yes, slow-mo - no) - although I wish for a leaner file size (without compromising on quality - give me the RAW).

bc when im doing a custom or something like that? I can get carried away! Sometimes I just lose track and there i am....laying there fucking myself silly for like 12 minutes. lol.
when to be real? most people arent gonna care about watching me do that for 12 minutes unless more or diffferent mess is poured on me....so i usually will cut it into pieces. I have some really long ones I have uploaded. longer than the customer asked for or if i did my own, longer than i intended bc it was a lot of mess and dialogue and stuff like that, i felt the need to keep bc I thought it was all gold! and it didnt seem to matter as a selling point at all.

Well when purchasing a video it definitely is a preference thing of how much money you want to spend a minute of video but for me when I order a custom I prefer to say that I pay for more than I need and then see whatever happens as Jayce points out some models get into their own world and that is totally fine with me but I definitely prefer to keep as much in a video for a custom one.
Personally I could talk a lot about how one take solo made wam videos are awesome but I would say that length only matters for the price of a video

I would say that it doesn't matter too much to me. I love those moments where you are watching a scene and you're like "oh man, she can't get much messier!" And then there's like another 10 mins to go and you know whoever it is really is in for it!
At the same time, scenes that are short, sharp and pretty relentless with the mess are also awesome.
I focus more on how attractive I find the model, substances and coverage.

i dont charge my scenes by the minute. i feel like that is an old school way of doing things nor have i ever....and ive been selling them for 10 years.
i feel like the quality of the vid, what people are actually willing to PAY, REALISTICALLY....those are all the things i consider.
i do charge more for a video with more girls. I charge more considering the mess. how x rated it is....but i dont do it by the minute. I have an x rated one that is almost 6 mins long. its 19.99 and that is bc im getting fucked in the mud while ariel masturbates. i mean....thats a pretty fucking good deal. i took into account the fact it was shorter than most my vids...what can i say?? the dude couldnt handle it very long
BUT. it is a great scene. well shot. amazing mess. really bad ass. i feel like its worth more but i know ppl see the minutes and think "i am not gonna pay 25-30 dollars for 6 mins" even though its worth it. gotta think like a consumer and with me being one? i never buy something bc of run time. i buy when i see the model and the mess. period. thats all

I think part of the problem might be that MM's template when you're setting up a scene tells you not to mention run time in the description, but I think that refers to overall run time - certainly in our case, if a single video contains more than one section of a scene, then I'll give the exact timings of each part. Usually if we include a hose-down it will be a separate and clealy labelled file, but if it is in the main video then we'll always state something like "The first 17 minutes of the video are the main messy scene, followed by 8 minutes of hose-down during which the girls strip to the swimsuits they are wearing as underwear."
Personally I don't understand why producers wouldn't put as much detail as possible into a scene description, but I've seen some apallingly bad ones that don't tell you any of the important details. In our case, I'd never want someone to buy something and then be disappointed by it, so I try and ensure all the important details of what the models are wearing, what they get messed up with, how it's applied, etc, are described for every scene. I also always describe each model's outfit with something like "Jane wears a pink track-suit and red wellies, Jenny wears a green ballgown and green suede high-heeled thigh-boots", so that someone who hasn't previously seen any of my scenes can tell which model is which.

I have an x rated one that is almost 6 mins long. its 19.99 and that is bc im getting fucked in the mud while ariel masturbates. i mean....thats a pretty fucking good deal. i took into account the fact it was shorter than most my vids...what can i say?? the dude couldnt handle it very long BUT. it is a great scene. well shot. amazing mess. really bad ass. i feel like its worth more but i know ppl see the minutes and think "i am not gonna pay 25-30 dollars for 6 mins" even though its worth it.
gotta think like a consumer and with me being one? i never buy something bc of run time. i buy when i see the model and the mess. period. thats all aesthetically pleasing

i dont charge my scenes by the minute. i feel like that is an old school way of doing things nor have i ever....and ive been selling them for 10 years.
i feel like the quality of the vid, what people are actually willing to PAY, REALISTICALLY....those are all the things i consider.

aesthetically pleasing I agree in the sense that there are many factors that come into play when pricing a video. More than one might think!

Much like Theatrical productions, Content is King and if you don't like the content, 5min of it vs 40min of it really won't matter in the end.

There's also something extra to the idea of building a Brand and having a Track-Record.
Much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where they've created a Content Machine that people/customers are willing to trust due to factors like Quality, Performance, and Previous Enjoyment, Producers like Messygirl (or yourself) are building the Brand not only with with Popular repeated Scenarios (like Human Garbage Disposal or Fluff Statues) but repeat experienced Models who are not only well-liked yet give great performances as well as work well with production.
Part of the problem with a lot of Scenes that looked good initially is that the Model just never connects with the concept or the experience in the time allotted. It's just a job, they're not having fun, and it shows.
Part of the reason The Man and the Wife Videos are so enticing (especially since you produce in the PG-Realm) is that The Wife is IN on the joke. She gets it. (and her friends do too) and it seems like they're down to play.
There's a Slapstick element, an element of Comeuppance , a Humiliation element, punishment element. a playful/silly element, a Dom/Sub element, a power-reversal element, etc.
Obviously they all know what they're in for by now, but they continue to apply painstaking detail in creating their various looks, outfits, etc. to end up being slimed/pied in unique amusing scenarios.
So if you put the same quality of work and attention to detail into a shorter scene, It's value would more than likely be the same as a longer one.
Of course, like others have said, longer scenes tend to pad the runtime with Bloopers, BTS, Showers anyways. so again, length doesn't really mean what you might initially assume so it's a bad metric overall. IMHO

I have some really long ones I have uploaded. longer than the customer asked for or if i did my own, longer than i intended bc it was a lot of mess and dialogue and stuff like that, i felt the need to keep bc I thought it was all gold! and it didnt seem to matter as a selling point at all.
I had soundguy tell me once "i dont know why you have these super long videos, 10 mins of what you think are the best parts and thats all you need to make" as far as releasing....he is right for the majority of people. but SOME PEOPLE want that longer video. they want to go back and see it again and again and find different things every time. things maybe they missed or whatever.
its a tough one though. good question. i still havent figured out a balance for this at all.

You will not watch/pay for a 30 minute video with lots of pies, slime whatever if you don't like the model(s) or the context of the video.

I tend to think of scenes length as how much time do you need to convey a story or an ideal?
