First of all, I hope it's not a repost. I see 'Jack Smith' uploaded this video to his account on youtube almost 20 days ago, though that's the first time i see it. Anyway, This video gets really interesting as it goes. It show a kinda sexy girl getting eggs and other kind of food smashed and poured over her, in what seems to be a 'punishment' after she lost in the gameshow. As the punishment continue, the girl getting more and more upset with the situation. In the middle of it all, she took off, and after returning, it looks as she starting to cry! In my own opinion, the girl totally got the situation out of proportions but... you can't argue with feelings of a human being...
I uploaded this as an example of a clip on the border of being uncomfortable to watch.
To add some context as to why she's doing this when she clearly is so distressed by it, I believe she would be kicked off the show if she didn't complete the challenge. Also, it was basically a flip of a coin that landed her in the situation. She didn't actually lose anything.
Objectively speaking however, it's one of my most-viewed videos, so there's clearly a strong desire for that type of scenario. Perhaps an untapped market?
Watching that, I found myself wondering why no one involved - not the producers off-camera, not the hosts, nor the people administering the condiments - why didn't someone call an audible and call this off? I'll go as far as to say it -- this is abuse, not WAM. I think it's safe to say that if one of us was WAMming a partner and they were crying, we'd stop. Immediately. Every last one of us. It doesn't matter if it was a game show and something was at stake; you can always find another way to "write around" something like this happening.
I'm big into humiliation comedy. This clearly falls into the realm of humiliation, but it has nothing to do with comedy. Comedy wam requires a pratfall or a prank on an apparently unsuspecting victim. A prank employs surprise to catch the victim off guard. If the prank goes poorly and the victim is clearly genuinely upset, one can always shut it down quickly and let them recover. Conversely, this was the slow and deliberate torture of a girl who appeared to want nothing more than to leave, but was contractually obligated to stay. Though we've seen similar set ups and reactions on the show Fear Factor, this show managed to appear more mean spirited for less entertainment value.
