Not sure if this has anything to do with the gender tagging or if anyone else is having an issue with this, but I've noticed in the last few days if I go to a friends profile and click on their posts button, I can only see a few of their posts. I just went to one and it said they had 14 posts and only two showed up. I tried it without any gender preferences and then tried it with all the different ones. Is this related or a separate issue? Anyone else having the same problem?

Thanks for mentioning. This can happen if the person has replied inside of the threads. The results only show each thread once, though the person may have multiple posts inside it. Would you mind inboxing me and letting me know who you were searching? Also, if anyone has any other issues, you can always inbox me or use the Contact Us page.
[edit: That was the case--the person did have 14 posts, but most of them are replies inside of 2 threads. Our search results only show full threads containing the results, not all the individual replies.]
The new class system doesn't seem to work that well. Apparently no matter the gender restrictions, the messy forum shows all content, which sort of makes the classification system worse than things were. Now the messy forum has been leaking a lot of male wam, and it isn't gender tagged at all.

Sorry, this is the first I'm hearing about this. I'll try to see what's up and I'll hit you on inbox. [Edit: I found the post you were talking about... it was just in the wrong forum as normally happens. I've moved it... You can flag stuff like that if you want to.]
I recently posted a Male Wam clip of myself to the Videos. When doing so I didn't see any way to tag it other than putting "male" in the keyword box. Now that it's up it looks like it only appears on the Wall and Videos listing if the gender preference radio buttons have the "all" choice selected. If before posting that I had first changed my Profile settings of "I'll normally post about:" to "Male content" would that have triggered the appropriate "male" tag on that video clip posting? (Currently I have no choice selected) If so, would changing that back to "Female content" later have any effect on the tagging of that clip? Also, would having the Display Preferences in my Profile of "I prefer to see content that is:" set to anything but "Male" have any unintended tagging effect on that clip posting? Thx!
I am not sure if the filtering really works. Apparently my setting is on "Male" but I see lots of female stuff, all the ads for example. I realize that these changes are going to stay, but I still think that the old system wasn't broken. At least not more so than the new one.

I've often wondered whether the ads are controlled in the same way - I'm not sure if there are many male WAM advertisers. Pretty much all the ads I see are for female WAM, which as a gay male I'm not remotely interested in.

Thanks for asking Smess. If you ever change the "I'll normally post about" setting, UMD will go through and update all the content you've ever posted, and tag it to be consistent with that gender. (This includes forum posts.) There are some instances where an item's gender tag will be locked in and not changed.
The "I prefer to see content that is" setting has no effect on your content; only what you see around the site. The bubbles in the top right are shortcuts to that setting.

I made these changes on years of input and moderation headaches from the weird way that the forum was categorized before. Now the forum is back to the original way it was categorized, plus it's tied into UMD's overall gender settings, which means that instead of just male wam, now there's effectively male wetlook, male messy, coed wetlook, coed messy, trans wetlook, trans messy... you get the point. The flexibility that I've been asked for a million times is now there for everyone, without adding a bunch of forums which I really didn't want to do. I'll continue to listen to input, and things can be updated over time! I'm sure we can strike a balance that pleases the most people without excluding what others want, and without causing me a ton more daily work.

I started updating the ads system to be gender-based. But then I realized... there ain't no male ads!
Yeah, the idea is to get ALL of UMD to filter itself based on a simple gender preference. However, not all sections have yet been updated to adhere to your setting.

Messmaster, Firstly I'd like to thank you for all the great work you do and to say that over-all I think the new layout & gender-preferences for the fora are good, however, I am on the flip-side of the above coin - I'm a straight male and yet I seem to get a large amount of Male WAM adverts, currently my "work-around" (as I use Firefox) to browse is to "Ad-Block" any male image that comes up, so I just get a blank space, but clearly this means there must be Male WAM producers advertising (currently 4/6 adverts in top right corner of initial home screen are male), therefore there might be some mileage in extending the gender tagging to cover adverts.

I could be wrong, but I think you might be looking at some of the download plugs that show up around the site.... those could definitely be gender-based, and I am working on that. The actual site ads that we run though--almost none of them are male wam sites at this time, but I could definitely make the conversion on that if needed.
Apologies... I think you are right, they are "download plugs"... In my ignorance I called them "adverts" because they are selling something. It would be really helpful if they could be included in your "gender tagging" project. Sorry for the confusion.
