Been getting messy for years but never tried wetlook. Going somewhere with a private pool and would love some ideas! What are y'all into? What should I wear??
Well it's a big matter of personal preference but I really enjoy casual clothes such as jeans, levis, t-shirts and casual shirts, maybe socks, maybe tennis shoes. I love the way they feel on my body and I like just jumping into or being pushed into a pool. I'm sure I'm only scratching the service as far as what's good as there is most likely 1000's of differing opinions.... Have fun!
Thank you all for the suggestions - this is probably a stupid question but clothing that's made to get wet (bikinis / latex) don't count? Or is it more the element of see through?
Just your normal clothes. Whatever you've worn all day (Clothes, underwear, shoes and jewellery.) just go in the bath/shower/pool wearing that. All of it.

in my opinion, wetlook is a quirky genre... i don't think anybody wants to see bikinis? (maybe one or 2?) some people do like see through, but for other people it is more of "see under" and by that, i mean it is the way many wet materials cling to the body... and not necessarily WHITE but pink, red, orange, yellow, tan, etc etc. And then, if you are wearing bra/panties, that the seams of the undergarments are visible under the saturated material. some people like black materials, which are not see through at all, but reflect light more than the lighter colors.
so i should say to go for the solid colors with "natural" fibers like cotton and silk... but if you wear something with any kind of print - flowers, paisleys, other graphics - those can hid the appearance of the clinging.
Even entering the water has variation... some people like showers, some people like bathtubs, some people like slowly stepping into a pool, lake or river, some people might like to see you getting pushed into a pool, lake or river. Some people might not care if your hair gets wet or not, others like to see the hair get into your face or if you can flip it backwards out of the water.

The best answer to this is "wear something you'd enjoy getting wet in." The most important feature of all is your own enjoyment of doing it. However beyond that, if you're looking to please an audience, things to consider:
The vast majority of all commercial wetlook features women wearing jeans. Denim is very good for wetlook as there's a distinct colour change when it gets wet, so if someone in jeans is wading into the sea or going down steps into a pool, you can see exactly how far up they've got wet by the material's colour change. Soaking wet denim also shines beautifully. Avoid wearing anything low-rise, partly because it's an abomination against fashion that should be erased from history forever, but mostly because wet clothes are heavy and so low-slung items are even more likely to try and fall down if not pulled in at the natural waistline than they do when dry.
Regarding see-through stuff, some people like items that go see-through when wet and reveal the underwear (or nudity) beneath, but most produced wetlook doesn't feature see-through, many wetlook fans are more into seeing people in wet clothing than seeing through the clothing. But there will be some variation in either direction so again it's what you're comfortable and happy with and want to do that really matters.
The UMD is unusual in that the wetlook definition here does include swimwear and even nudity - the majority of wetlook fans tend to regard swimwear and nudity as not being part of wetlook. After all you can see people in modern swimwear getting wet on beaches any day of the year, so there's nothing special about it. Although having said that, wetting a swimsuit slowly and deliberately and filming it sexily, with lots of nice closeup crotch / bum / chest shots, the kind of view you wouldn't have on a beach - at least not wthout getting arrested for voyuerism - could work.
Other things to consider, as @ncgreg231lc2 mentions, are the actual mechanics of getting wet, and how to film it. Some people like sudden and total dry-to-wet, like jumping or being thrown into a pool, others prefer to watch a slower entry, walking down a flight of steps, sitting on the poolside, legs in the water, then gently lowering yourself in, or slowly going down a pool ladder, one rung at a time and getting wetter with each one.
Note for any of the above scenarios, things to keep in mind if filming: 1. The "money shot" is the point at which your clothing is entering the water and getting wet. Keeping the actual waterline clear and visible in shot is what matters, normal photographic rules about head / face placement, etc, do not apply in shooting wetlook. 2. When getting into a pool, the photographer should be either standing in the water looking towards you (assuming pool less than 6' deep), or on the opposide side looking towards you. If they are on the same side as you then the results will be terrible as the camera can't actually see anything as you go in. 3. Make sure the sun is *behind* the photographer (i.e. you're facing towards it, they are facing you, away from it). Otherwise, all they'll film is a shilouette with almost no detail visible. 4. Shot should be framed so your head is at top of frame and feet are a bit above the bottom of the frame, and should then gently but accurately follow you down into the water - and make sure the actual waterline on your clothes is clearly visible at all times. The camera operator should resist zooming in as that just makes the picture jump about, is distracting, and spoils the shot. Slow and steady, full height, and make sure we can see the actual wetting happening.
I should probably make this an FAQ, given the number of what should have been great scenes, but ruined by terrible camera work, I've seen over the years.
WOW. Thank you so much for your deep, thoughtful reply. I feel more excited than ever to try this. I'm so obsessed with the production of my shoots so I really appreciate how you break down the sequencing of how to shoot my first wetlook shoot. I'll keep everyone here posted as soon as I get the pics back from my photographer!

and some of what DungeonMasterOne said inspired me to add a few more thoughts...
DungeonMasterOne said: Note for any of the above scenarios, things to keep in mind if filming: 1. The "money shot" is the point at which your clothing is entering the water and getting wet.
Perhaps the entire scene might be described as the money shot... to start with * HOW * the clothes to be worn are introduced, followed by expressing the possilble/probable certainty of your clothes getting wet. And then the many different ways that you might enter the water. And not yet mentioned are those fans that enjoy the UNDER water wetlook!
For many wetlookers, * EMERGING * from the water is also important. If you go completely under, then it is that moment when you first resurface. Following that, will be the process as you emerge from the water - either gradually like at a beach, or a little bit faster, like from the steps of a swimming pool...

Besides having your camera operator, it might be beneficial to arrange for a 2nd (and even a 3rd?) camera angle, which might be somehow camera mounted, or with additional camera-persons? If the following youtube clip doesn't appear correctly, search using "princess diaries fountain scene"

Hopefully all of these thoughts don't end up becoming overwhelming? (So besides all of the previous comments already made)
plan for several outfits. start with a full business suit (probably with pants & high heels, or some other appropriate business footwear) Enter the pool slowly, and move gradually toward the deep end. If you can swim well enough, try swimming underwater as well. Hopefully you will find that swimming with shoes is not impossible (i can swim fully dressed with combat boots, but i tried that gradually because i am afraid of drowning)
For your next outfit: wear jeans, a t-shirt, maybe some kind of sweater/jumper with a zipper/buttons so you can take that off mid-experience, trainers/tennis shoes/sneakers/etc. I suppose you should also change to dry undergarments. For the bra, avoid "padding" unless you want to try it that way as well. For your entry: could be a cannon-ball, a water slide (if available?) or a "plunge"
(radacted by admin)
Another outfit might be pajamas of some kind, or a summer dress like Anne Hathaway wears in the fountain scene that i posted.
It might be cool to make a VLOG and mention that you are wearing clothes in the pool for the first time, and all of your reactions as the experience unfolds? If this is your first time, i HIGHLY suggest you mainly focus on how you like the experience. Just as pies, mud, slime, etc isn't for everybody, wetlook might not be for you??
...i will have a better signature, eventually!
4/20/21, 7:30am: Good post but that linked video had kids in, so have had to purge link and product name.
There is no problem getting wet in a swimsuit I know there meant to get wet but only at beaches or swimming pools so wearing one in the bath or shower can be very sexy and exciting Just check out saturation Hall or chuck posts to see I certainly find a wet swimsuit a turn on and so do lots of others in here they just wouldn't admit it as its not proper wetlook apparently

Something formal
Paint with play and surrender
