i had a convo with mr. mg a while back because ariel and i were considering renting an apartment to do our wam vids in. it was going to be a large expense and considering we dont make much anyway, it was a risk assessment. were we going to make THAT much more money to cover this??


mr. mg said something to me that really stuck in my head. he said that he thinks that girls like us, what we do, wamming in our own home brings a realism and something authentic and a more "amateur" vibe, which is what we are. our vids and lighting are pretty rad...but we are just a couple of gals, having fun. wamming in our homes when we are alone! He said that it had a certain appeal as opposed to other producers. basically, if you have a CHOICE, its how you want to present yourself. we like to present ourselves exactly as we are. two women, running our own stores, editing, lighting, camera work, (once in a blue moon we get a camera man) and we are doing it iin our own homes. we are what you would call "amateur" so, do you spend money getting a backdrop and making sure that everything is picture perfect? or do you go with the flow and do what you do? its all up to you. i agree with amwamorigins that as long as i see people having fun, i dont mind whats in the background. hence, why took mr. mg's advice. now, if i see some real weird shit in the back ground like two horses fucking or something.....that may make me just get distracted. lol. XD but otherwise, you got a good enough model and mess....shit....whatever is behind them is null and void! thats my take on it
i will say though that i do see people with fantastic back drops that look really incredible! and i follow their work and even buy some of it! but it really doesnt have to do with the backdrop...yeah, it looks really nice but the mess is what really has me following them hope this helps!

Using a green/blue (usually green) screen can be used to change the background out later but the lighting has to be PERFECT to get a crisp and clean ultra key in Adobe Premiere. It's a right pain in the arse to be honest.

The next ultra-specialist wam niche?

We tend to give our shoots a home/studio feel. In the 20 plus years of doing our own messy shoots, we have used 6 different locations and numerous rooms per location. Our current home studio is in a highrise. The advantages of this are the concrete walls, that can withstand the mess from our shoots. If our walls were sheet rock, we would have taken precautionary measures to use a protective covering, like Rich uses in his swanky townhome. We also prefer white backdrop wall, because it gives us a "canvas" feel when our girls get messy while standing in front of it. We sometimes add the visual corner home decorations and wall hangings to set a home feel tone. It also makes it easier to spot our videos if they happen to be pirated.

Every producer has established themselves over the years and their backdrops are a major part of that. I'm very sure if all the WAM producers backdrops were posted, 9 out of 10 could be easily linked to which producer it belongs to.

Ugghhh, tell me about it. I only tried it once (Wamjerk 18 with Holly Webster) and had to spend days dragging the mask around frame-by-frame, pixel-by-pixel to fix the worst of the bleed-thru. I actually thought I did a near perfect job lighting the screen until I put it in the editor. WHOOPS Ultimately came out OK, and the video sold decently, but not decently enough to go thru that effort every time.

shit, i dont know...we have shot in so many different houses, i have moved so many times. lol XD i have no idea if ppl can see my stuff!! usually ppl are dumb enough to leave my watermark on vids....that typically is helpful not only that, our locale for mud is always a different background. that mud is so damn fertile....one day its a vast fucking mud pit and the next its like a jungle with a 12x12 mud pit. its so weird. lol this job is weird. hence why i like it. all i wanna do if i ever stop selling my vids, is find regis. i want to know this man. i also want to carry mace when i find him.

When it comes to amateur vs professional I'm not talking about quality at all, amateur is generally my preferred category even in non WAM related content but that's also PERSONAL taste.

20ft is the minimum size for extra camera angles at 45 degrees.

I used a smaller backdrop on "Pie My Worthless Face. Episode 6 of Come Crying To Me" but used curtains on the sides.

I also utilize every room in the house.

I'd like to know if the backdrops I use are received well with the fans or not.

We had to go indoors once for a day long thunderstorm but we were prepared with something remotely outdoors-like. Kind of. We did some interviews with the ladies once too and felt like it had to look right. Much of our motivation for backgrounds comes from not wanting to "spoil the magic". We don't want to take the viewer out of this little world we try to create for a few minutes. It's their world. They paid for it. Another factor is Dave's "OCD-ness" about appearance. He's kind of particular about some things and that's good because I'm a slob. Another thing is we have seen it done wrong with cables, hoses, tarps, hay bales, all manner of crap in the background on other videos and it takes away from things. It may not matter to some but it sure matters to us.

My Motto when I started was "No Tarps, No Kiddie Pools". I adopted this philosophy because those things tended to telegraph to me that something messy was planned to happen. I like the idea that the mess is somehow spontaneous and unplanned with total disregard to the consequences - unconstrained mess. Cleaning is a pain, but I prefer that aesthetic. Say NO to prophylactic WAM! Tarps are like WAM condoms!

That's sort of profound and I never thought about it like that. Now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever seen any sort of "protection" in your productions.

Totally agree with the little pie and slime blobs! I always find small green specks in miscellaneous corners of the kitchen days (and months) later.

We started using using simple bed sheets to level out the colors in the backgrounds of our sessions. I've found this helps to focus my camera and really draw out the colors and contrasts of some of our messes. We do plastic on the floors, but plastic always seems to peel down or break away from the tape if I try to cover the walls (very frustrating). Someday I will invest in a wam playroom with hooks or adhesive clips to hold up the plastic or more formal tarps...

I'm also not a huge fan of bathtubs or tile walls - it's a bit too spontaneous looking for our tastes (I'm more of a planner when it comes to wam) and then there's the random dirty shower curtains.

Yeah, I don't wish to adopt that philosophy. I'm on a WAM site. It's obvious WAM is going to happen. I like the feel of inflatables in addition to mess, for me, they go hand in hand. So I'm not going to stop using them. WAM condoms? Hey, I'm a lesbian and I still use condoms for certain activities.
