So I've not been messy in a LOOONG time and I'm unable to do so at home, I also can't spend a night in a hotel... but I've found a website that shows hotels that offer daytime stays (10am - 5pm) which would be perfect for my situation (it's also a hell of a lot cheaper then overnight stays)
I have done hotel session in past (overnight) and I have a tried and tested routine, the only thing that's putting me off with a daytime session is the limited length of time I'm going to spend there (3-4 hours max) as it's not possible for me to stay the full 10am-5pm.
So any smells that may linger from my session might still be there when I check out, of course I can leave windows open the whole time in there, clean up with lemon scented cleaners and spray plenty of air freshener before I leave. But there's always that worry that I might get left with a future bill for any possible lingering smells or messy spots I might have missed... idk maybe I'm overthinking it.
I would love some advice from anyone who can help... thanks!
that is all we do if we ever do hotels! Which? Finding out these daytime rates are awesome! I wonder if they have them where I live bc it is always a horrible ordeal. Where we have to book it the day before....we usually only have a few hours before bed to shoot and then we have to shoot in the morning really fast and clean up before we have to check out at 11! To answer your question? I have wammed in hotels for days at a time. As long as you find a place nearby with an open dumpser policy (you can even ask a front desk person and throw them a few bucks and they will usually be cool) or? you have a vehicle that can store all that trash till the end? put the do not disturb sign on the door. Just be cool. I used to get my card and come in the side door with most of my materials in a big suitcase and other stuff in tupperware bins if needed. I just made sure to come in the side door never had any problems. I finallly told the hotel what I was doing after going there so many times and? I needed to use their pool for wetlook and they were fine with it. If any employees werent? I just handed them a 20 and went about my business but? they were fine with it. they just wanted to watch and it made the girls uncomfortable. so? as long as you pay, you dont leave the place a mess. you dont have people SCREAMING at the top of their lungs (ugh, ariel used to do that so bad and it was soooo embarrassing! i felt embarrassed for her....) then you are fine! I wanna find a hotel near me that does this! this is awesome!
as far as lingering smells? I had to live in a hotel for MONTHS and became friends with the staff. the things people leave behind? is insane! they are slobs! no one is gonna bat an eye. people come in that smoke heavily and leave a smoke smell, even if they dont smoke in the room! people get take out...but? I have always brought dawn, made sure to have 4 ml bags to store mess in and i usually take it out after every session. (see above about trash cans nearby) and I brought incense called "nag champa" you just light it and go around the room kinda wafting the scent? it is spectacular!
also? febreeze is a big help. the biggest help is just getting it out right after each session.
ive had some sessions where we couldnt find a trash can so we left the bags at the hotel with a 50 dollar tip and they took it out for us! not a word was said or bill that came in!

Hi Jayce, thanks for the insight! Yeah the website is called "dayuse", I'm pretty sure it's a UK only website but there might be a US equivalent. I was thinking of flushing most of my mess down the loo when I'm finished, but asking to use their rubbish bins isn't a bad idea! I'll probably go ahead with it, I'm well overdue a good mess!!!
I'm going to suggest you stay away from real dairy products and savory foods to avoid smell. Shaving foam is always recommended for the easiest clean up and the least amount of stain or ruin of anything. It's just so much easier to clean up after. I would also recommend you avoid doing big messes because the set up and clean up takes a lot of time out of getting to play with it. For the easiest routine, use the shower/bathtub and if you're going to do any sliming, I recommend you use the synthetic slime from Messy Supplies because it washes down the drain without clogging it. Certain food products can have grease or oils in them that congeal and clog drains and just to be polite I would avoid clogging drains if possible. If you plan on using a particular hotel, then you want to avoid anything being traced back to you. I recommend putting tarp in a tub or shower and getting messy that way. You can just wrap the tarp up, shower off, wipe down any splatter and toss the tarp in the dumpster on your way out. Stick to dairy free whipped cream and I recommend using icing because it sticks really well, tastes good, smells good, coats good and cleans up easy. Hope this helps!

Find a good place, I'll bring my work with me if I have to, and you can use it to shoot for a few days.
When I was traveling with my family, I dropped them off at a shopping mall and ran to a dollar store to buy the supplies and get back to the hotel. I just had a few hours (2/3 hours to have fun!). I always used the bathtub and never had a problem with the smells or the drain. I usually used whipped cream and cans of pie filling. I always put the do not disturb sign on the door and it always worked! After that, I threw the mess into trash bags and took them to the nearest dumpster. I was never questioned about what was in the trash bags. I always thought there was no such thing as a perfect crime, so I checked the bathtub curtain, tiles, and faucet to make sure there are no traces of pie, slime, spaghettios, or whipped cream on it. And always keep the extractor fan on. Then, when my family came back, they never asked me about the smell. Just one time I used cherry pie filling and it didn't run into the drain. I was running out of time to clean up and left some residue in the tub, along with a $20 bill next to the sink. When I came back, everything was perfect and no one asked me why there was pie filling in the bathtub.
I was curious whether such hotels were available in the US, and they are! Take a look at dayuse.com - you can even select periods of time (7am-3pm, 9am-4pm, etc.) depending on the hotel. Quite a selection from which to choose - 48 hits for the Houston area, mostly from chain hotels.
As for cleaning and whatnot, bring along basic cleaning products, including sponges and those cheap blue thin towels that you can toss away. If you cart everything in a rollerbag, line the inside with a strong plastic bag, then dump all the empties and other trash in there, if you don't have easy access to the hotel trash bins. Trashcans at public parks are also handy - just don't make a huge mess that the custodial staff must clean.
As for what products to use, avoid whipped cream, mayo, and anything with a strong lingering odor.
I've wammed in so many hotels I can hardly count. We always stick to non-dairy dessert WAM, so any lingering smells are more pleasant than otherwise. With plenty of plastic dropcloths and a careful going-over of the whole room afterwards, we've never left a visible trace.
And as for carrying out the trash, if you're not sure you can do it yourself, make sure the debris is double- or triple-bagged in sturdy (not too heavy) bags before you go and leave a generous cash tip. No housekeeper's going to complain about that.
Your best friend will be a product you can find at most Walmarts. It is called Ozium. I used to drive cabs and when someone puked in the cab or just smelled wrong I used Ozium to get rid of the smell. It does not replace the smell like most scented stuff. They claim that it works at the molecular level to negate the particles. I don't know if it does that or not, but it is the best thing I have ever come across to get rid of bad smells.

Those big showers are amazing, especially since both can get clean at the same time rather than one person standing there like a reject Peep.
For anyone curious, I went ahead with it last Friday! I was worried about nothing, I checked in around 11am and checked out about 3pm. I had plenty of plastic sheeting placed around the bathroom and when I finished, all the mess get flushed down the loo. I aslo gave the bathroom a really good clean when I finished, you wouldn't have even know I was there!
The only awkward thing was carrying 2 quite large bin bags, filled with containers, tins and cartons throught reception and outside to the bins. The guys at reception either didn't care, or just didn't notice
If you can get setup, get messy, and clean up in good time- not much risk. Worth noting hotels (in the UK) test their fire alarms weekly- usually on a weekday morning. Yes, I've had that test happen mid session. Trust me, longest 30 seconds of my life.
I see it as cost per session. Book a room for a short amount of time and I can get one session in. Plus setup and cleaning. Longer bookings work out as much much better value per sploshing, and still with only one big setup and cleanup.
I usually book a block of nights in a hotel- plenty of time to get setup and enjoy multiple sessions, and still have ample time to pack up after. Shortest time I've booked was Friday/Saturday night. Skipped work early the Friday, setup by the afternoon for a session or two in the evening. Then 3-4 sessions Saturday, clean up Saturday evening- leaving the pool inflated overnight so it can fully dry out. Pack up Sunday and rebuild the room. Still time to pig out at the breakfast buffet too.
