There are plenty of self build website platforms these days. I've been using Wix and Weebly for many years now - but there are dozens. That's fairly easy and you'll find the subscriptions - for hosting, bandwidth and domain etc. (one way or another) all cost roughly the same
Now, the next bit is where it starts to cost money. Most of them require more money to upload videos to their platforms - so it's often more cost effective to embed them form a free or specialist service at the point of use service like YouTube or Vimeo.
Also, adding a commerce module is usually another expense - or you can use a commission based e shopping specialist.
Then, the next problem - how 'sexual' are your videos? Most billing systems will not accept the selling of 'adult' material - and could well shut you down. There are billing companies who will allow you to sell adult content - but at a very high cost.
That's why you'll notice - on the whole - most producers use UMD, Vidown or Clips for Sale as, although there is a cost for using their services, they tend to take the massive headache out of trying to do it on your own.
I'm sure anyone who knows how to post here knows that they can make a store here. If someone's asking for advice on how to make an independent website, they probably want to make an independent website. Help or don't, but advising them to sell on UMD is tone deaf and self-serving.

I disagree. The original request was to "open up a WAM store" and UMD is the easiest and cheapest way to do that, and instantly gives someone the biggest potential audience. And having spent a couple of decades in tech support, you'd be surprised at the things that seem obvious to those who already know, that aren't at all obvious to others.
And I totally don't get how it's self-serving, self-serving would be to advise someone to go off and spend a load of money on web hosting, domain name registration, the $$$ annual fees that have to be paid to each of the big card associations to be able to accept their respective cards for adult content, and either the time to learn to code or the fees of a professional coder, and then ultimately set up a separate site that will get way less traffic than a store here and thus be way less competition to those of us with existing stores. But I take the view that the more of us there are, the more successful we'll all be. "A rising tide raises all boats."
Honestly, unless someone is planning to go big-budget and set up something on the scale of Allwam, a store here is the simplest, easiest, fastest, and cheapest route to what is a rather specialised market.

The original request was also "To create a website that accepts payment." The "create a website" part being repeated in the body of the post. Maybe OP doesn't know the UMD store exists--doubtful for a UMD member where this forum is more links to UMD stores than anything else--but maybe. But taking the OP at face value, they want to "create a website" and saying "just open up a UMD store" doesn't address that. It's self-serving for a UMD mod to try to drive people back into UMD's ecosystem and even if you were just a regular poster, it's self-serving to drive them to a system you're comfortable with with no regard for their desires.
Point is some people want to take ownership of their work and create their own website for it--regardless of all the scary fees and extra work it takes to do so. If that's where OP is, they don't deserve to be sold a non-solution. UMD's eCommerce platform isn't the only game in town--and for some, it isn't even the best game in town. So claiming that it's in OPs best interest to open something up here when they asked how to create their own website is disingenuous.
OP, if you want the easiest solution to sell your content, I'm sure there are plenty of people invested in UMD's success ready to help you set up shop on UMD. Listen to them and they won't lead you astray. But if you want to create your own website and sell your content there, you should go for it--damn anyone who tries to scare you off the idea. Plenty of producers have done it. It's your work and ultimately your responsibility.

I disagree. This is the de facto best place to set up a WAM store.
OP asked for:
1. a place where they can create a website to sell and upload WAM videos. 2. a place where they can adjust the prices for videos or promos. 3. a payment merchant that will accept payment for WAM videos.
UMD checks every box and it's one of the very few places that will accept payment for WAM videos while keeping their own commission relatively low. Not to mention the ability to host your videos right here, the built-in customer base looking for said videos, and an engaging forum full of people actively looking for ads for new videos to buy.
