How long does mixed gunge keep in a covered container? Now that we have a working gunge tank set up, I am wondering how long gunge stays good. The cheap bastard in me would like to re-use the gunge for a second sploshing if feasible. Thanks for any input
Gunge should always be warm. You get a better reaction out of the lady if it's warm. It also makes it a much better experience for them, which is important. A warm, oatmeal based slime is almost therapeutic and you get the best reactions when a lady embraces it.
Regular gunge 2-3 days, maybe 4-5 tops- but I've had it start to smell a little funky on days 4 and 5. Depends how warm its kept and if anything else gets mixed into it.
Bentonite clay on the other hand should (in theory) keep a lot lot longer since its inorganic and inert. It'll also hold a pigment as well- so it could be a good option for creating a long lasting gunge.
No idea about Slube or Slime-Baff gunge- might last?? Brought Slime-Baff packaged with an inflatable pool before, so I think its intended to last a few days outside?
For easy/lazy reheating, add a small quantity of boiling water and mix very thoroughly. (1L of boiling water will 'heat' 10L of gunge by about 10 degrees C- about enough to go from room temp to bath temp)
--Edit-- MessySupplies sells ready mixed gunge- which has a shelf life of about 2 weeks from the date of mixing.
Thanks for the replies After our first gunge tank test, it seemed kind of wasteful to just dump the gunge out. To clarify, the idea would be to scoop it up into 5 gallon buckets that have lids and be stored at room temperature. The green slime we make ourselves uses an instant pudding mixed with refrigerated milk base so temperature isn't a big concern. Bacteria/harmful things is what we were worried about. A day or 2 seems to be the safest bet. Thanks again!
I did try to keep methylcelulose slime for couple weeks by adding hot tub chlorine in my 110l bin with lid.. the chlorine was effective to the point of breaking down the slime to something almost non-slippery water.. so failed test.
I bought gunge from Splatter Emporium and wound up with a couple of buckets that didnt get used. I put the top on the buckets and sat them to the side in the bathroom planning "to use them shortly". Shortly turned into a week, and I thought theyd be spoiled but I opened them up and checked and they were still just as fresh as the day I made them. I guess as long as there's no food products in it, it should keep well.
Apparently, the BBC used to scoop up and re-use as much of the gunge as possible dispensed from the tanks in NSR and the House Party, dishing it out again and again over the couple of months of the run.
Commercial gunge I have bought over the years I am aware is deliberately formulated to biodegrade once mixed with water. My experience has been that it rapidly breaks back down and starts to smell quite sulphurous/methane-y after only a couple of days.
I have successfully kept large quantities of bentonite clay for nearly a year, only going bad when it must have become contaminated.
Potters' clay (if prevented from drying and the water uncontaminated) lasts pretty much forever (decades in 'captivity') before it's quarried, literally millions of years!

I've kept MS Gunge powder for over two years and it was still good, other than needing a much more vigorous mix due to lumps forming (needed an electric mixer instead of mixing with hand)
Likewise Slube and Bentonite have kept perfectly fine.
Stored in a sealed bag, in a rucksack with my other messy equipment (buckets, mixer etc)- as long as it's all kept dry you're pretty much golden. You may wish to avoid strong smells, as things like mint can penetrate plastic packaging. (I'm sure there's at least 10 people on here who'd love a refreshingly minty gunge experience so have fun)
have you thought about using mud / clay instead then use a soil heater to warm it up for the next use, doesnt go off only dries out but you can keep it wet
