Disclaimer: I'm an ugly American who knows nothing of any other area on this blue marble. Please forgive/tolerate my ignorance.
My wife and I are thinking about taking a trip to England. We've seen many videos of people wallowing and couples getting down in what looks like heavenly, rockfree, secluded muddy river banks and flats. My question is, if we DO make it to England, what do you think the chances would be of finding a good muddy spot to umm... "play" in? Or, are areas as sectioned off, monitored and unaccessible as they are in the states? Thanks!
You're probably going to have to specify whereabouts in England you're going to be. DM1, the Moomins, and CandyCustard probably all have some good answers, but they're are going to be in vastly different areas. I've found the UK is a lot smaller than us geographically, but it's still about the size of the KFC conspiracy (which is the first image I posted).
I can't believe I had never seen that chef pic before. Loved it. And thank you for the info. To answer your question, I have zero idea where abouts in England we'd be because we haven't planned a single thing as of yet. However, I'm interested enough in the mud that it very well COULD determine where we wind up going!

I'd advise talking to MikeNomic, and staying in the Bristol area when you visit - that area has the kind of mud you mention
Or, talk to DungeonMasterOne and go visit beautiful Yorkshire - again same kind of mud you mention. Combining with visits to York and Harrogate will make the perfect holiday
Essex is great for mud (see wamchantelles latest post) but it tends to be at quarries and difficult to get to and you can only get away with being there on Sundays and bank holidays when it's shut
or, time it for when I have my deep indoor mud up and running again and come jump in that
Also, I don't know if you've checked with Lisa, but depending on when, go to the Moomin event. Their area is Weston Super Mare I think, not sure if I spelled it correctly or not.
I'd second Bristol Esturary area but get some tips and watch tide times Carefully!! That goes for anywhere coastal. Everything is on the web with regards tidal information. Going out on a falling tide will give you several hours. You may want to check this for the area you decide upon so you get low tide at night/dusk during your stay. Try contacting Mostwam/Lisa...They shoot most of their outdoor mud in and around that area. Just be careful and use the cover of darkness ideally etc. You don't want the coastguard joining in......Well you might but not advisable
Thanks for recommending me as the person to talk too about UK mud! That's impressive!!
I would echo Candy and say speak to Mike. I only know about my areas mud
The one thing I will say though is, don't book a trip to the U.K. based on mud play. Come because there's other things you would love to see and the mud might be a bonus. I say this because the U.K's weather is unpredictable at best. So it might be to cold to be enjoyable, to warm and the muds dried out. Also our mud is tidal, so timings might not suit with how many dog walkers etc.. are about.
So again like Candy said, what about a session in her mud pit? Or our event?
I'm not trying to put you off...just things to consider!
Second the advice to talk to Mike Nomic--If you want a "private " recommendation I will give you details of my favourite estuary S of Bristol Deep, sticky mud ,reasonably secluded,& a river to wash in
