so...my girlfriend doesn't like shaving cream pies b/c they taste like horseshit...and i tried buttercream frosting in pie shells...but there was no coverage...it just slid off...
so what are some of best homemade pie recipes that you can give me...pies that look like $10 bakery bought real cream pies?...
If you are in the USA, Dollar Tree and Walmart have graham cracker pie crusts for about $1. You can fill them with whipped topping from the frozen food section (generic Cool Whip) for about $2, bringing your grand total to about $3 per pie. That is what the second pie in this video is made of. The first pie in the video is the same thing with a pudding base added. If you use those pre-made pie crusts, the lips of the tin are sharp so be sure to fold them all the way back before hitting someone in the face with it
If you have the time and want to get fancy, you can make your own pie crusts with 3 parts flour, 2 parts fat, and 1 part water (by weight). Cut the fat into the flower and then mix in ice cold water till the dough takes shape. Roll it out, shape it in a pie tin and bake at about 425 degrees F. Since you are making it for sploshing purposes, over cook it a bit so the crust breaks apart better on impact. Good luck!
Personally, I like to use plain ol heavy cream and an electric hand mixer. You can control the consistency that way. Lets me get that perfect mix of thickness for coverage and sloppy spread

Well buttercream is slippery cause it is made with butter.
If you are in the U.S., then it would be best to use cool whip, I believe. Not right out of the freezer, of course. Probably more at room temp.
There are a good number of producers here than can probably give you the best recipe for it.

No no.. the shaving cream tastes like horseshit. Get it right.
Oops. Just curious, how does the girlfriend know what horseshit tastes like? Saying shaving cream tastes like it means she would have to know what horseshit tastes like right?

If you use the mentholated shaving cream, it doesn't taste like horse shit. Not unless the horse in question recently ate a couple of boxes of cough drops.
Before you go nuts trying to simulate a store-bought pie, check to see if any stores near you have pies on sale. While the days of the $1 Pet-Ritz pie and the $2 Sara Lee Outlet pie have sadly passed, it's possible to find good bakery pies and nice frozen-brand pies for $3 apiece. Wal-Mart stores with a bakery section often have a handful of cream pies discounted (and they're usually already pretty well-thawed, too), as do many smaller chain grocery stores. Big-box stores like Meier routinely put pies on sale two for $7 or two for $8, or potentially less depending upon where you live. When you factor in the cost of the ingredients, and the labor involved in assembling pies that aren't necessarily as good as the real thing, it's often worth the extra handful of change to buy a real pie.

Great idea, although you have to be ok with bringing 20 pies to the checkout counter and dealing with the judgmental looks. "Look, i'm hungry and love dessert!"

Pro tip: Most check out workers couldn't care less what you are buying. If you don't give them any grief and don't hold up their line, you are forgotten as soon as you walk away

No one knows, the shows won't tell, and I got tired of experimenting, honestly. (I mean, it was fun, but I didn't get the formula QUITE right and sales reflected that.) I suspect it's a mix of icing and heavy cream and maybe a touch of marshmallow, and of course hot studio lights.
I've experimented with mixing heavy cream... Making icing... Adding marshmallow to whipped cream... They're all interesting variations in their own way. I've never had success with frosting as a substitute for whipped cream though.

I had a nosey old lady once ask what I was making since I did have about 20 pie crusts & all sorts of other weird items. I was half asleep and not expecting the question so I just answered cheese cake even though I didn't have any of the ingredients for that. It was awkward but not a big deal, I really don't care what some random old lady thinks of me, lol.
For pies I tend to prefer pudding with cool whip on top. I like the creamy sensation and it's pretty damn tasty

As we've discussed, i like the slipperier, shinier, gloppier pies, but moving even beyond that -- didn't realize you'd tried to reproduce the Latin America game show pies so diligently (and to the detriment of sales). I applaud your efforts. You are the Mr. Wizard/Chuck Yeager of pies.

Do not make the mistake of assuming that supermarket cashiers or anyone else in the store can read your mind. If you act furtive and secretive and guilty and self-conscious about your purchases, that will draw far more attention than if you just walk up to the checkout with your purchases. If you had a legitimate mainstream need for 20 pies, you probably wouldn't waste a second thinking about other people's opinions. You need 20 pies, so you go to the store and you buy 20 pies. That's how stores work. You are entitled to buy things in stores. WAM supplies are NOT controlled substances. If the cashier comments on your purchases, it isn't some kind of test to see if you have appropriate plans for the stuff you're buying -- it's an attempt at conversation. "That's a lot of pies..." requires nothing more taxing than a "Yes" and a smile -- or if you prefer, a noncommittal reply like "Yeah, I'm stocking up," or "We're having a party" or the like.
The last time I chatted with the cashier about the large number of pies my lady-friend-of-the-moment and I were buying, she ended up giving us a coupon I hadn't seen that saved me around $30. Don't make this stuff harder than it needs to be!
Mapwhap1 said: My best results have been with these 2 recipes:
1. Cool whip, but using an electric mixer to whip it up while it thaws. You can add just a touch (like a tablespoon) of warm water to it to make it a little creamier as you work with it.
2. Uncooked meringue. You'll probably my need to look up the actual recipe, but it's just egg whites, sugar, and a small amount of cream of tartar (which is a thickening agent). You can mix up as big a batch as you like, based on how many eggs you have, etc. You also won't get NEAR the number of funny looks from people as you will loading up a shopping cart full of cool whip. Just don't bake it at all. It has a very creamy, sticky consistency. I'm surprised more people don't use it, but I suppose cool whip is more convenient.
Uncooked meringue. Spot on. Best pie filling I've ever made and taken. Really sticky, great coverage and tastes brilliant. Try it!
i LOOOOOVE anglefan and slapstick stuffs pies. the delivery has a lot to do with how well theirs look as well. i love how the graham is just everywhere. we always use the graham crusts with filling if asked and cool whip on top. we break them up before we throw them but it looks like anglefan and s.s. break theirs up like, into a million pieces before throwing and i love it! once we did a scene with marshmallow fluff but we wanted it to go on smoother because it was two girl and we mixed in cool whip with each tub. it was a beautiful coverage. it was not for pies, it was just for full body coverage on each of us girls. i always wonder if that would be good but i also loooooved messy melanias pies too!!! i would love to have her recipe. i think she said it once and it had somethign to do with icing and fluff and whip or something. i think that the heavy whipping cream used alone looks too much like shaving foam. when it hits it looks like it and when you cant be there to taste it then it is kind of a turn off bc it resembles shaving foam so much. dont get me wrong. i love a shaving foam pie! but, if i am in the mood for seeing some good pieing with food products, seeing foam looking pies is not my bag most the time.
thank you to everyone who replied...cool whip never occurred to me b/c i thought it would be too much like whipped cream from a can...i am looking forward to trying the cool whip and meringue and heavy whipping cream ideas...and any other good ideas others might add...
