I live in a condo. Unfortunately it's not one of those really fancy condos that are basically houses. Mine is more set up like an apartment, units upstairs and units downstairs. I'm upstairs. Whenever I do a messy session, it's always in the tub since it's the easiest place to get messy and clean up.

So something like a year ago, a contractor came to my door and told me my tub was leaking into the unit below me and I needed to get it fixed so they could fix the ceiling in the unit below me. I asked if they'd mind taking a look and tell me what needed to be done. My faucet was loose and not entirely flush with the wall, and they said that was what the problem was. So I got it sealed up extra good, let them know, and I never heard anything back, so all is well right? I didn't really think anything of the whole WAM thing as mess couldn't get into that faucet spout gap that was up there, just water trickling down the wall from the shower head...

Couple months ago, the day after my last session, I get a knock at my door, it's the board of trustees guy who oversees everything condo related. He tells me my tub is leaking into the unit and I'm like "...still? I fixed the problem 4 months ago and haven't heard anything from anybody since..." I guess the guy just neglected it? So now I'm thinking "Well fuck me...it was that session I just had and there's a huge mess of molasses, and chocolate syrup water flooding this guy's ceiling..."

So they send some guys in to look at everything, and they can't find anything on my end of the tub that would be causing a leak. They had to take down the ceiling to find out where the problem was coming from turns out it was something to do with the the pipes down closer to his unit that were fixed wrong by the company that used to manage our property or something. I don't really know the technical aspects of it. After the weekend they sent somebody to fix it. Had me running the water in the tub several times and eventually told me everything was set.

Anyways, I guess it wasn't as bad as I imagined with contents of sessions leaking down into this guys ceiling...and it's fixed now (hopefully). I haven't done any sessions since. To be honest, I'm pretty much terrified to even try doing a session again.

Seen some WAM horror stories on here, I guess I dodged a bullet and maybe it wasn't the smartest thing to be doing these sessions in a tub when I'm in an upstairs unit with someone below me...Not like I did them all the time, maybe 3 or 4 times a year. I'd think there'd be more water going down in the daily showers I take...so maybe it's okay, but probably better to play it safe...I'm sure getting wet and messy in the tub goes against their rules and regulations and having another mishap where things really went wrong and the contents of a session leaked into the unit below would not be good for me...

Anyone else have any similar problems? We need more places in the US that are designated for WAM sessions...

To be honest I'd not worry about it, sounds like the problem has been fixed and was unrelated to your plumbing anyway.

Bathroom plumbing is designed to handle large volumes of waste water, that's what happens every time you take a bath and pull the plug out aftewards. If you want to be sure it's all working without leaks, just take regular baths, instead of showers, for a few months. Showers are barbarian contraptions anyway, a proper two hour soak in a nice warm bath is way better than any kind of shower.

The biggest risk with WAM substances is having thicker things clog up drain pipes. The way to avoid that is to flush through with a **lot** of water. Lots of people don't seem to understand what that really means, think in terms of opening the taps to maximum and lettting them run for 10, 20, or 30 minutes. That ensures all the WAM substances are flushed fully through and not left to build up causing a blockage. If you can afford the energy cost, use hot water.

If they weren't fixed right but the pipes are now, you're good to go. Nothing that goes down the drain that you're going to use indoors will weigh more than the water that's normally flowing through them. Also if you're using molasses and chocolate those are all water soluble anyway.

I would second this by making sure to use HOT water as well, as this will help with dissolving anything thick in the pipes.

Thanks for alleviating some concerns everyone! It's nice to get messy every once in a while , and knowing that I should be okay is good to know. Everything I get messy with doesn't really run much risk of clogging anything, just cake mix, chocolate syrup, and molasses, and one time I did applesauce/pudding slime. I run the water and fill up the tub to dilute everything before pulling the plug and draining the tub too.

We've had a similar-ish scare. Just under a year ago we'd started to scale up the scenes we were doing, using more like 40L of gunge at a time when we were using 10L at a time. Day after we'd done a scene, I'm sat editing it and there's a knock at the door. Open the door to an engineer from the water company talking about a blockage in the drains. I'm trying to act surprised but secretly my heart is racing thinking it's something we've done. I've got an image of the drain being opened up and there being bright pink gunge everywhere. Turns out that a few doors up the road, someone has been flushing wet wipes down the toilet and unbeknown to us, there was a broken drain rod sticking out of our spur that has caught all the stuff that had just been jetted out. Everything was cleaned up and sorted out and nothing was bright pink. Had a good long sit down to catch my breath before getting back to editing.

For me I tend to only work with things I can clean and fix if needed I got some pluming experience but I think you will be alright.

One thing I tend to do is it solely rely on the tubes in the bathroom but take anything heavy like molasses and half wash half maybe move out of the environment if I'm cleaning up by myself. But it all depends especially if I'm collaborating with someone.

After you've done that, either leave the tap running on max for 20 minutes, and/or refill the tub with clean water and then pull the plug again, to give it a real thorough flush out.

I had just finished shooting an episode of Splatter Island. I get a knock at my door. The guy downstairs tells me there's a leak. Oh ****! I call a plumber, clean up my bathroom, make it presentable -ish, and he comes and looks for something. I tell him my floor was wet, and my toilet isn't connected right (wax seal was gone, along with the caulking from a previous event), so he fixes that and leaves. The guy downstairs was gone, so the plumber couldn't look in from below. Welp, turns out it was an actual busted pipe, because we have quest pipes, and those bust for the lulz. The plumber shows back up the next morning, and the guy downstairs doesn't want to let him in. Well, he kinda has to in order to find the problem. Fun fact, not only did I flood his unit, but the person below him, too. 800 for the plumber, on labor day weekend, and another 400 for the emergency flood removal. Fun times!

Ouch. This sounds like the guy downstairs here...it's like why the hell would you want to have a leak in your place? They confront you about it, then don't want people to come and resolve the issue? Some people are really baffling.

I had a scare yesterday.

Girlfriend and I are dogsitting for a family friend where they're all out of town for the 4th. Went over yesterday to get the keys and wound up staying for like an hour just chatting. At one point the dad looks at me and jokingly goes "so I hear you're into women's clothing", and my mind immediately goes to two things-

1) my girlfriend told him that I have a massive thing for maxi dresses

2)my girlfriend told him the above, and that I think it's hot when she wears them in the shower.

He then makes a joke about putting caution tape around his daughter's closet, and it's at that point I remember.

The last time we dogsat, I was packing my girlfriend's stuff while she was letting the dog out, and there was a bunch of his daughter's athletic under-clothing was on her bed (we stay in her room since she's out of the house), which I packed thinking it was my GF's.
