I live near Portland and I'm trying to find good, deep mud, but I can't seem to find anything more than knee deep. Anyone have experience trying to find mud around here? Any good quarries or riverbanks? If not, then any tips on how to find mud in the forest? Thanks for any advice
OH wow. you REALLY like to get muddy. LOL! Unfortunately, I can't be of help, except to give a supporting shoulder. I live in Montana and from what I have been told, we don't have good mud.here. You could find a place and dig a pit, then fill it with powdered clay. That would make an awesome feel, as the powdered clay lookes like chocolate pudding. HeHE!
A quick google search for Portland tidal mud flats shows that it does exist, but no idea where in relation to the city or how public and general safety regarding tide, waves, hidden sharp objects like shellfish, etc.
The tidal mudflats in Coos Bay, Oregon are always mentioned by folks in the area. A quarry with mud has been mentioned from time to time by folks not well known on the mud network but no one has ever provided a location. I've got my doubts as to whether it exists...
Ah I thought someone might post that here. Yes I have seen it, the locations it has near me are bogus though. The only one I haven't checked out is the one in Longview since it's about an hour and a half away from me. I'll have to do that next weekend.
There are a couple spots that looked promising, but I couldn't check them out last year due to a toxic algae warning for the Willamette river. Theres definitely mud along the Columbia Slough, but its not secluded at all.
