I am a little late posting this, but better late than never. Back in the early fall I had an... incident that required me to hide my profile for a few days until I could clear things over. The rate at which I noticed what happened and me hiding my page made me do it in such a way that deleted my entire friend list. Now, I know I can't get everyone back and that I might not have talked to you all regularly, but I just wanted to say it wasn't because of a massive purge and I'm not adding you back because I don't want to be your friend anymore. The truth is that I'm just really bad at remembering names/spellings and am too awkward to send out requests hoping I've grabbed the right person.
Please! Send me a friend request if you want to be friends again and we haven't already re-added each other!
This happened to me earlier in the year too. Anyone that sets their account to incognito loses all their friends. If I recall correctly, it's something hard coded into the site since incognito shuts down all social aspects of the site.

Exactly. I had to go incognito until a situation blew over. I was in such a panic I did what I could to hide my page as quickly as possible I didn't have time to look at what the consequences were.
It is too bad that there are people that put you in this position. While I understand MM has to maintain order and what not on the site, but a little reverse play would not be a bad thing.

It wasn't anyone from this site. I was made to act based on an outside force.
Really sorry to hear that Stella and I hope you don't see a repeat.
One small suggestion. Messmaster posted in the forum about his plans for next year. You might mention this downside of going incognito temporarily to him. Maybe he can build some mod into his plans so people can go dark and not lose the friends list.
Because a few people have asked after reading this as to the situation was. Always remember, especially when talking with family, to double check that you are actually coping and pasting the recipe you meant to send them and not a direct link to your UMD profile page.

Oh no...
I had a similar thing happen and a family member recognized the person as a friend of mine on Facebook...that was awkward.

Oh, my!
That almost happened to me one time, but I caught it before I sent it.
Stella, I'm so sorry that a family member made things so bad for you that you had to go incognito for a while!

Take care!

It wasn't so bad that I went incognito. I just did it in the first 20 seconds after I realized what was sent. No time to think, just needed to make sure they got a dead end rather than a link to my page. I was able to put my page back up after deleted the link on their end.
