I was thinking about bringing gunge powder on vacation within the US, but I don't want to pack it only to find it causes an issue with Airport security. Has anyone brought it with them on a plane flight within the continental U.S.? Don't want to fly with it if it's going to cause me any issues.
Most stuff like Gunge powder should have COSHH Data sheets or Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) that you can get and print off. i would carry them sheets in you carry on and the powder in your main luggage to be safe.

That sounds like a terrible idea. I mean, the TSA get freaky if you try and bring a bottle of water through security here, let alone a bag of white powder. Customs will probably want a word and you'll have fun explaining that to them. Either way you're asking to end up sitting in a bare room for a while and maybe getting it confiscated for disposal which is a waste of time and energy for everyone when you're talking about a food thickening agent used in every fast food restaurant in the country, and it's a big country that likes its fast food.
Honestly, consider this carefully. You're thinking of taking a bag or box of white powder through security and customs at an airport.
Would it be possible to post your gunge powder to your vacation destination and have it catch you up?
No idea how fast, cheap or reliable post is within the US. Probably easier if you're heading for a holiday home rather than a hotel, but probably not impossible. Sounds like less hassle than trying to take it through an airport.

I misread... that makes sense. Just make sure the original label is on it. Post here is reliable and it could likely go fixed rate. Hotel would be just as easy if times for arrival and probably an idea to call ahead and let them know you'll be expecting a package.
As long as it is in your checked luggage you should be ok. I would have an MSDS with you just to be on the safe side. Honestly there are a lot of things that you can slip past TSA. The airport also matters. When flying east coast to west coast, they did not care about what I packed and I even got away with a bottle of Donald Duck OJ because I was diabetic. They made me open it there in front of them and drink a little but that was it. They were more concerned about gun powder residue on my hands. Flying west coast to east coast, I have never been tested for gun powder residue. They would not let me bring my OJ diabetic or not and gave me crap because there was a little water in my ice pack. The west coast TSA did tell me that it did not matter what kind of liquid I carried as long as it was frozen in ice. I asked them if I could have brought poison with me as long as it was frozen in a block of ice and they said yes because there was ice around it. The TSA make no sense and no two airports operate with the same rules.
I fly carry on only because every time I've checked luggage at PHL it has been lost. EVERY SINGLE TIME.
So what I do is back the toothbrush, leave the paste, I can get some at a walmart at my destination. Same with soap etc. Anything some moron fuckwit with a sub 90 IQ working at the TSA can possible think is a bomb or weapon, stays home.
People who have one of the TSA precheck services probably have very different experiences.

I fly a lot, and finally got smart and did TSA precheck and switched back to flying carry-on only. Airports are a shitshow and you're exactly right - no two are the same and TSA is, well, what it is. Theater run by wish-they-were-cops.
