Hi all. GF and I have seen a lot of scenes that use flour thrown/dumped on a model after mess. How do you do that without making clumps that are terrible to come out of hair? Sometimes it's even massaged in?
Flour dumps and shampoos have been a staple in my scenes both in spite of and because of flour's reputation as tricky.
To be honest, though, as part of a varied, full-on, multi-layered mess it's rarely been a problem - especially if it's just added to a lot of other mess. So much so I don't worry about it anymore.
My top tip would be to keep it moving (adding oil, butter, water and - counterintuitively - more flour as you go!). Crucially, don't let it set or dry out (the only time we ever had problems was with a pre-mixed flour based mixture setting under hot lights during a photo shoot) allow a significant amount of time for clean up.
If you really want to play safe there's gluten free, but where's the thrill in that?
Confidence does come down to trial and error in the end. Plan your sessions well and leave plenty of time.
We use gluten free cause flour and me n gluten don't mix and depending on the replacement flour I find it makes a good slop! We "I" add oatmeal to it or other fun items to make it more dense but also add oil when mixing it. If it's only rice flour it can get super sticky if not mixed in well but makes a super thick ooze Also if someone has food allergies if they r super sensitive don't get it on their skin even if they don't actually eat it. I've gotten the bubble guts from breathing in a lot of stream when cleaning gluten stuff
