Hey everyone, I need help with a question please, I've notice in the past few weeks that in some fields close to me have big piles of a black substance which is like mud, does anyone know if this is a natural substance and would it be OK to get messy in as it looks awesome, thanks
Heaps of it piled up? It's most likely cow dung, or possibly silage, if the fields have cows in.
Silage is fermented grass and can be quite acidic - the run-off liquids kill almost all plants, I knew someone new to farming who'd planted a flower border round a farmyard only to see everything die after the first silage harvest. So I'd definitely advise against playing in that. Cow dung is largely harmless but a) it's still animal poo and b) anything involving it (or any other form of poo) is banned here, so you'd not be able to share anything from a session in it.
If it isn't either of those things, take a photo of one of the piles and upload it, some of the farming folk on the forum should be able to more accurately ID it.
Hi, thanks for the reply, I will get a picture tomorrow I was thinking it could be cow poo as that's what it looks like but I haven't been close enough to smell it lol I'm thinking about going for some fun this weekend after dark as its down a reasonable quiet lane and I have several wetsuits I can use and leave there once I've used it incase its a bit smelly
