I run a message board and recently members in the EU have reported they can no longer view 18+ Youtube videos without putting in their credit card for age verification.
This is spelled out here: https://blog.youtube/news-and-events/using-technology-more-consistently-apply-age-restrictions/
"As part of this process some European users may be asked to provide additional proof of age when attempting to watch mature content. If our systems are unable to establish that a viewer is above the age of 18, we will request that they provide a valid ID or credit card to verify their age."
If this becomes more widely adopted, not only by Youtube, but other platform, you'll have the nail in the coffin on all 18+ content on the net.

That's a pretty extreme leap from YT in the EU to eliminating a substantial portion of stuff on the web. At worst it just means that people who can't prove they are 18+ can't get to stuff they shouldn't get to anyway. Having grown up with that I can say from experience that the collective hormones of the world's teens usually find ways around age limitations anyway. Most to all of that material is appropriated without payment to the creators so anything that eliminates an incentive for theft works in the producers favor. I'm good with it.
Yes, but every time you have to deposit official identification, you're one step closer to having your identity stolen. Even governments have been hacked.

Thats why you go to the quickie mart and get a disposable prepaid debit card or use one of the many temporary credit card number services
