I was really pleased to see the Eagles win. There's been a real "changing of the guard" feel to the NFC this year, with the Eagles, Rams and Vikings doing so well, and my concern was that it was just going to go down the drain and be wasted on yet another NE SB. Like the rest of the NFL needs that to happen. Happily, it didn't. Philly deserved it, no doubt. They had the guts to go for it on fourth down a few times, held their nerve for most of the third downs, and didn't crack when NE took the lead.
I also loved the common sense application of that stupid catch rule to two of the Philly TDs. They may have been a bit dodgy by the letter of the law, but the law is an ass in this case and the officials got it right. It's now up to the powers that be to change it over the summer, and get rid of the discrepancy that a receiver has to do far more than a runner (briefly getting the nose of the ball, in mid-air, over the front of the line, is all he needs) to score a TD.
And anyway, any team that can have their QB both throw and receive a TD pass in the same game just has to win
It truly may have spelled the end of a dynasty for NE, we'll see. Brady is 40 and all good things come to an end. Philly basically beat NE at their own game, albeit barely, by wearing the opposing team down and consuming clock time.
I never watch sports.. ever. Mainly because I already am over-saturated with entertainment, but also largely because I hate seeing anyone lose.
At 10:33pm Sunday night I heard fireworks go off around my area (near Trenton, NJ). I suspected the Eagles might have won. And, sure enough, they did. I sure as heck would never have bet on them, given the Patriots' track record.
