I totally agree, a good gunge dome is very iconic of a classic gunge tank style gunging. When I designed the mk2 gunge tank valve one of the things I was aiming to get right was the dome effect.
That used to happen every week on Noel's House Party, I hated it, because it meant that 90% of the gunge would spray off in the "dome" and spread itself all over the inside of the tank, missing the victim completely and leaving their clothes prtactically un-gunged. Only at the end when the flow slowed would they start to get properly messy and by then most of the tank contents had been wasted.
I kept meaning to write to the BBC and suggest a different design with a pump and nozzles that would spray the gunge out all round the victim at neck/shoulder height, so it'd flow all over their clothes while leaving their head clean so we could enjoy seeing their reactions, or perhaps a small spray onto their hair that would cover them but not bounce off.
Which I guess goes to show how different everyone's tastes are. It never occured to me that anyone would enjoy the dome-spray effect which I thought the most frustrating aspect of NHP gungings.
When we gunge people in our tank I tell them to move about, start sitting back, so the pour goes straight down the front of their outfit, then rock forward to put their head under the flow briefly but then go sideways so it falls on one shoulder, then the other, lean forward a bit to get all down their back. The exact order will vary but the idea is very much "make sure to get covered all over while it's flowing."
Be very interesting to see if anyone else likes the dome effect spray?

It's why I use as much as I do. I love the dome effect, but only to start with. I know where you're coming from with the waste of it goimg else where, bu I found that when the gunge has settled on their head, soto does the dome effect.

With you 100%! Far too much slippery goodness going to waste on the booth walls.....
