For a brief second I was hoping Steve Aoki made a guest appearance to throw cakes at Doja Cat for 10 minutes straight. Sadly, it was just a throwback to mud wrestling.... minus the wrestling. And any facial/upper body coverage. But, for fans of mud SITTING, it was.... Solid?!
Also, anyone standing in the crowd at Coachella complaining about "horrible, insipid music" probably should've spent their $400 on Eagles tickets or something. [Not saying Doja Cat is better than the Eagles. Just that folks at Coachella might have different music tastes than the UMD.]

Alright. I watched the whole performance of the song. And I have to say, this is a pretty big WAM deal. Say what you will, but a mountain of women writhing around on one another whilst covered in mud is something I will never complain about.
Once upon a time that would have been a "must tape" scene. It's certainly spectacular, and I agree with The Man and The Wife above, "a mountain of women writhing around on one another whilst covered in mud is something I will never complain about."
But, nowadays I see things like that not as "stuff to collect as WAM scenes", but rather as "seed scenes" that will hopefully turn a few people onto the fetishistic appeal of people getting messy. But as actual WAM scenes, things like this rarely work well because they aren't filmed by for for "our" audience - so you get constant cuts away from the actual action, you don't get to see the initial clean-to-messy transition in any kind of detail, the whole focus is otherwise.
In this particular case, the leg and lower body coverage is epic - but at the same time, we don't really get to see it happen in any kind of detail, and it's not clear what Ms Cat or the dancers are actually wearing into the mud. So from my POV, not something I need to own as a wam scene, but hopefully something that will awaken some of its audience to joy and wonder of mudplay. I can imagine the effect it'd have had on me as a teenager, 40-odd years ago.
There have been mainstream scenes that do totally nail it from a wammer POV, but they tend to be quite rare. It's always good to see mainstream wam is out there though.

I'm with you, things like this "normalize" WAM and I think that's great. Will it set off a chain events of others doing WAM, probably not but who knows maybe someone else will be inspired by it and give WAM a try. Deep down inside most of us like the idea of getting messy, we hear it all the time from first timers once they decide to participate in it.
It reminds me of when the Ice Bucket Challenge was in vouge. While that was for a good cause we got to see some of our fave celebs take a bucket of water over the head and it wasn't looked at as weird or taboo. I love it when WAM makes it into the mainstream.
Without quoting anybody above, nobody wants people to try and moralise or aggrandise kinks around here. Neither is WAM an unsung silent majority. Let's try and keep the speculation about whether people are into the same very specific things we are to a minimum. Private lives, guys.
Furthermore, nothing is wrong with the vast majority of other kinks. WAM is privileged to be among them.
HOLIEEEE SHIIIIT! I HAVE HAD LITERAL DREEEEEAMS about a scenario like this.... since I have been a dancer or dance instructor since the age of 9, started doing choreography for my middle school dance team in 6th grade, danced in high school, college and have been a pole athlete for a few years and have been teaching pole fitness and dance for a while... I SWEAR i have dreamed of a huge stage of mess. Pole in the middle. To just dance and let the mud naturally come onto my body! This is INCREDIBLE! i wonder if since this is a "festival" and festivals like bonnaroo? The years I have gone (many moons ago during the first 3 years of bonnaroo) We would end up in giant mud fights with hundreds of ppl...the farm was surrounded by ponds that all of us would get in, in our clothes to wash off or just cool off from the insane heat. the mud stuff, though? was insane. Ths was before bonnaroo became super mainstream with mtv there and all of that. Which were the best years. I remember sliding and running and falling body after body all over eachother in huge areas of mud where it had rained the night before. naked people just romping in it... i wonder if she was taking this from something like that or more like a woodstock vibe? I dont know and I dont typically listen to her music ( i have some songs I really like but I dont bump her music all the time) but? This was awesome for the whole "festival" theme! and you are right! Her sexuality and sensuality in the choreography in the mud makes it more of a "this is sexy" vibe than a "hey this is fun!" vibe Which leads me to think that it is seen as we see it, in some-way. Its like I feel like me and her are connected somehow now. hahhaha. im bff's with doja cat.
When my girlfriend and I began to get physical, she asked me if I had any kinks or fetishes. With a bit of reluctance, I told her about my fetish for WAM. She told me she was expecting something much weirder, the way I was hesitating to answer. I don't need WAM to be in the mainstream. As long as it's accepted enough to not have your partner looking for the door.
Slapdash WAM said: Mainstream displays like this make me wonder...
Just how many people would this fetish appeal to, if they were to discover it themselves?
Everyone to who I've explained it too, understands the psychology and I've barely ever been judged for it. Most often when I divulge the information to a group of friends (in an environment about sharing and not passing judgment) I feel like "Food Play" during sex is so purely vanilla. Even if someone has never considered it, how long would it take them to apply it to their interests before it becomes what I hope it is to most of us- Being able to let go of all traditional inhibitions and going wild in on the most base, yet harmless ways.
If there was any fetish I feel like just about anybody would find something appealing about it to them- It would be WAM, and other uninhibited messy fun (this is probably most important) with a willing partner.
TLDR - Stuff like this makes me feel like "WAM" interests might not be THAT crazy. (Not enough for basically ONE WEBSITE DEDICATED TO IT.)
In a world of people using bodily fluids, torture devices, and all kinds of twisted things- Slapstick fetishes, I find, can border on straight-up playfully romantic depending on the situation.
UMD is all WE have. How many options do people have to look into things that are quite more questionable and complicated than... Pies in the face. There are a lot more questionable fetishes and kinks that honestly make me feel like WAM shouldn't be considered a KINK at all. An extension of the love you have for someone else is what it should be IMO.
I've always felt it'd be the easiest kink for most people to have- Excluding those who simply have no interest (totally fine). Whipped cream is always a standard "Wild Sex" kind of object, but- along with lube has always been a simple joke most people go to to illustrate deviancy. But how deviant is it to wanna have fun with a partner while giving an excuse to "clean up" your loved one however you want?
In other words, if you had to CHOOSE a fetish that was stuck with you- WAM and Food Play fetishes are some of the most, literally- VANILLA. If you're a giver, chances are you're also a seasoned receiver and vice versa.
Good for her. Not sure if this taps directly into WAM, or hints at a fetish she currently has, but- I can imagine Doja being the kind of artist to tap into what we all know about WAM, in that while there's so much attached to it and it's just simple fun. (She couldn't be explicit about developing such a fetish in public of course, but if there was anyone to introduce it to a wider audience).
A lot of people's ideas about intimacy already come from songs they hear, etc- But it'd be interesting for that to explore things like wam and other rather harmless fetishes.
Sexual stuff will continue to become more mainstream, and it's a shame that I can only think of ONE PIECE OF MEDIA that took the time to explain sploshing plainly and from the perspective of the fetishist (btw, one of the kindest characters on the show- True to life nervous throughout his entire wam session). A character tries to enjoy it, has a bad first experience, but by the end warm up to it and enjoy it with someone. It always stood out to me, considering her first foray into it doesn't go swimmingly. However, her story ends by accepting it and enjoying the fun she has with someone when they both happily and affectionately destroy a cake together. Importantly to me- It becomes less about the sexual aspect of the fetish and more about the fun you can have when forming a connection when you shed your inhibitions and give into the love of the mess. (someone I think we all understand).
I don't know. So many fetishes and kinks have made their way into public consciousness, and it's been long enough that "Kink Shaming" has become a thing. I can understand not wanting to be shamed for more sadistic sexual activities, but the thing about WAM- There should be sadistic, truly malevolent feelings. The best WAM sessions are between those trying to have as much fun with each other.
Am I the only one who feels like WAM deserves the mainstream attention given to all of the other aspects of sexual deviancy being displayed rather clearly in mainstream media? (BDSM Relationships, Obscure Fetishes, and Kinks that may be harmful over time. It's letting go, like with making a mess, but it seems to be more focused on negative things. A sub and a dom are rarely laughing together, the more extreme it gets, but why does that kind of thing get talked about more than-... Have a pie fight with your significant other. I've never understood it.)
So many kinks and fetishes now are open and out there- Things having to do with devices, electricity, drugs, all kinds of extreme things.
WAM does NOT deserve to be listed among these kinds of kinks, IMO.
I don't know how everyone likes their wam, but I've always enjoyed the idea of a loving couple expressing their love through a pie fight.
For some reason though- SOUNDING, sticking rods down a man's urethra seems to be easier to randomly stumble upon. Or girls being tied up around toilets- Disgusting stuff I want nothing to do with.
I can't be the only one to the discrepancy as sexual deviancy is just about everywhere online and in the mainstream- But for something that can truly be about love and chemistry, that will most likely end up in a SHARED SHOWER-... Is it too "weird"?
OR-... Are most people just cowards?
I think a lot of people are or would be more into WAM than we might think but it's still fairly niche as far as kinks go
I think the more light-hearted nature of the fetish and the emphasis on fun and campiness makes it easier for people to get into, theoretically anyway
It could also just be that talking about kinks openly is still not considered widely acceptable behavior in many settings
