Hi! I'm thinking of taking a bath in a real leather jacket of mine but I'm worried about ruining it. Does a bath ruin such a jacket? Please let me know!
The only experience ive have getting real leather wet is my boots. I did get them very muddy first before submerging them in a river, then later on washing them quite well. The leather its self looks fine and is not damaged however it did go quite stiff (this might be because of how i let them dry or stored them after) and the inside lining has started to detatch slightly from the leather in places but the boots are still usable and look/feel fine.
Hi, I'm wearing mostly leather pants for a nice bath (or a good mud romp before) but also from time to time a leather jacket. I always let the leather dry slowly and with lots of air around, so the leather does not get hard or mouldy. Some people use baby oil or special leather grease to soften the leather, if it got a bit too stiff - I just don't do that: too lazy. I have two old leather pants, each ~25 years, where one of them now has signs of wearing out in the crotch area. Both of them are from cow hide. Lamb leather seems to be more touchy, but none the less it isn't ruine just after a few baths. But that might also depend on the quality of the leather. My 2c, mal
Personally, I took a bath wearing a leather coat, but my leather coat did not deteriorate. Many times when I take a bath dressed in the lake, I enter the water wearing leather sneakers, leather shoes or leather sandals, but not been damaged. Someone said that when you want to take a bath dressed in leather clothes, you should avoid salt water, which could damage the leather clothes or the leather shoes. Also, on the forum, I see people bathing in various leather clothes or even imitation leather, and the clothes do not deteriorate. I advise you to have courage and try to enjoy the pleasure of a bath dressed in leather clothes!
I have soaked many leather skirts over the years and never had a problem. The only reason I have so few now is that I have gained and lost so much weight over time that I get rid of them because they no longer fit. But as long as I owned them, for many years each, no, I never had a problem, never had to treat them, nor did they ever shrink.
