It occurred to me this morning as I prepared my latest scene for release, that I have never actually done a poll about anticipation/build-up in WAM.

For the latest scene I have done a separate file for the build-up so those who don't like it, can just skip it..but given the build up shows the outfit that will be wammed being open and tried on for the first time, and also girls holding pies and talking about pieings..it still feels very wam related to me.

I am almost certain it's a small majority of us that enjoy this anticipation and build-up, but I am wondering just how small a minority. Maybe not that small as threads with girls holding pies always generate a lot of responses...presumably because of the joy of anticipation...even when we never see the outcome.

I came into WAM to make the scenes I felt were missing...the scenes I would like to see...which was primarily scenes where you could really build anticipation..like when you were young and you saw a preview of a tv programme..and some characters were sat at a table of pies..and all week you waited and hoped against hope that someone would be wammed when the programme aired ....that anticipation was a huge part of the joy. and when they did get a pie...WOW.

Also, the excitement I got from hearing girls talking about pies 'She deserves a good pie in the face'. WOW! I just loved to hear that.

and even seeing girls holding pies. and holding them like they could be used for throwing not for eating...hand under the plate supporting them.

Those things all added enormously to my wam enjoyment..to the extent that a wamming without those things felt half-complete. To be able to enjoy these things..knowing that sooner or later, someone is getting covered in pie adds so much to my enjoyment

So..I may well be in a minority of one...but that build up is huge to me. And if anyone does like it too..don't worry, no matter what the results of the poll, I won't be stopping..but I am curious as to whether I am alone in this.

I'm not personally into pies, but I do like a bit of build up to a scene. It's very much like the foreplay of the whole act.

One example from mainstream TV is the episode of NHP when some woman from the audience wanted to be gunged, describing it as her ambition. She was placed in a gunge tank on stage, and several times throughout the show she was told it was happening right there and then - only to have the infamous claxon sound but no actual gunge falling. She was finally sent back to her seat totally clean, only to have the attention turned on her once more when a tank was lowered over her to deliver her fate!

Produced scenes need to strike the right balance. If I pay for a 15 minute clip, I do not expect 5 minutes to be build up. I also don't expect any clean up, as that spoils things for me. It would be nice to see in the description of the clip how much of either there is in the overall production, so that people can make their own minds up on the value they are getting.

To add a new element to it...

It's something I enjoy a lot more when I'm in a session and it's me getting pied. When I'm hearing what's going to happen to me, and my mind is racing with how I'm going to end up, that's almost as fun as the actual mess itself.

However, when I'm watching, it doesn't quite do as much - I'm not really sure why. Maybe because when it's happening to someone else I can see the full effect of the pie (and in producer-made scenes, the quality of the mess is usually pretty good), so I don't have to use my imagination as much?

I like to be able to admire the models' outfits while they are all clean and dry, before the actual gunging starts, though if the lead-in is more than a minute or so I'd rather have this listed in the description.

There's a great scene by DIDVP (Leila's other store) where five or six girls, all in jeans and boots, walk down a very shallow river to get to a waist-deep mud-pit. The second or third time I watched it, I found just watching the girls in their clean dry jeans walking along the river, and knowing what was going to happen to them, was as much of a turn on as actually seeing them all wading into the mud was. Unfortunately I can't find that scene on their store at the moment or I'd link to it, it's brilliant.


Absolutely, this! Scenes with completely inadequate description leave people to take pot luck in buying them as to whether they'll get what they actually want. In my mind their ain't no such animal as too much information, so I put as much description as I can into each scene, describing exactly what each model is wearing, and what happens to them, whether there is clothes filling, cake sitting, mud rolling, is there hair coverage, is there face coverage, if pies are involved and if so where they hit, etc. When I include a hose-down or clean-up section it's usually a separate file, clearly labelled and mentioned in the description. Likewise if there is any more than about a minute of "pre-action clean" then that'll also be listed in the description so people know what they are getting. If any scene does have the clean-up in the main video, the description will make clear what the running time of each part is.

Basically, the more complete and accurate information the producers provide, the better informed the customers will be in making purchasing decisions, which leads to happier customers, which means they are more likely to come back and buy again in the future.

I'd also commend Sweet Sophie for clear and detailed descriptions of what's in her scenes too.

YES. (provided it's done properly of course ) I love the pantomime element of this, exaggerated and playing to the audience. And I love simply hearing girls using wam-speak, especially when they're providing a running commentary of what's happening in the scene.
The more over-the-top, the better - in other words, instead of saying "Don't pie me", they say "You wouldn't slop that big, thick, heavy, creamy custard pie all over my poor face, would you?".

Bill Shipton was really the only producer who ever really did this very much - please bring it back for us oldies!

Very interesting. While I completely agree that being clear about what exactly the clip entails is always a good thing , I am interested to read you say that you would be disappointed if 5 mins of a 15 min clip was build-up and later talk about deciding what value you are getting.

For me personally, I consider good build-up as important as the wamming..as a consumer I would definitely be happy with that 5 min build up 10 min wamming balance because a) I like build-up so I don't consider it filler or something that detracts from the 'real' scene and b) I have seen boring lethargic 20 minute wammings, and brilliant amazing 5 minute ones..so, and this is something I often find myself saying for me, length is not very important !

Again, I completely agree that comprehensive descriptions enable people to make an informed choice

Nick..I promise I am not hawking here, but I love this too, and it's absolutely something I try and put into my scenes It's something I took from Bill Shipton too, and my script doctor always has inspired ideas along these lines too.

Of course the success depends on which models you've got, how well-rehearsed everyone is etc..but it's something I try and do and aspire to do more of and better, as I am a huge fan of that. So there are aspects of that in my scenes because it is a key part of it for me. You use the word pantomime and this is what I try and get over to the stars..that these reactions are slapstick/pantomime..very exaggerated for maximum effect.

I also loved the way Bill would have characters break the forth wall and turn to camera and say 'we couldn't do that to her could we..well could we?' so I do that too, in lots of my scenes..

'what do you think guys? Should I...well should I?'

Senator, I'm no Bill Shipton, but I certainly aspire to succeed along the lines you describe, though I am not there yet by any means.

Maybe not but hey, as long as someone's at least trying that'll do me. It is amazing just how many sub-genres and styles the simple gag of pieing/gunging someone can break down into, and the cheeky and saucy fun category is one that seems to have been unfilled ever since Bill's untimely death. Splosh had a house-style that no one else has ever quite managed to pull off in the same way.

By all means, keep aspiring!

And on the main topic, although I do like a bit of build up, the most exciting form of anticipation is not knowing who's going to get the mess. Just imagine - Jessie, Kitten and Maria all in the same scene and all teasing each other with a trashing....but you don't know which one's going to get covered! Admittedly there are quite a few who wouldn't like not having the screen grabs before they purchase and there are times when I want to know exactly what I'm buying as well, BUT get the anticipation/mystery element just right and that set-up can be incredibly sexy.

I guess it replicates the excitement of all those GYOB/NHP gungings where they played a game/had a vote and you didn't know who was going to get messy and so built your own thrill by rooting like hell for the attractive female and imagining how amazing she'd look dripping in thick green slime... Of course, sometimes there'd be a letdown, but the disappointment just made it all the sweeter when your preferred candidate did get gunged the following week

And yes, the double entendre was deliberate in the first paragraph. After all, that's how Bill would have done it...

Thanks Moreslime...the corny gags is another aspect of Bill's work I have been inspired from. As regular forumites will know, I love a corny gag.

into a recent scene, and filmed, but then bottled and cut, a scene in Judge Jessie where Judge Jessie says 'How do you plead?' and Pandora says Like this 'please don't find me guilty..please don't, aw c'mon..please don't'.

I think I need to go all out for a very specific Splosh type scene in the near future. At the mo, I think I sometimes try and pay homage to all my favourite wam ideas in every script and stuff gets lost. But your encouragement is really really appreciated.

But what you write is exactly what I mean about the joy of anticipation. That's exactly the pleasure and joy that I try and recapture with my build-up, with the bonus of knowing that the sexy girl will definitely get it good.

and then the next week..oh she's cute..will she get it..will she...OMG..she's going to be gunged...amazing.

That's the thrill I try and recapture, only you're right..I don't go as far as not revealing the plot or who is getting it. I don't think I'd ever have the bottle to do it, and I think it would be a sales disaster. But I totally LOVE the idea, so who knows..maybe one day.

But Slymsford's is shooting more scenes than ever before now, and that gives us room to have the odd epic failure...(hello 'Cherry trashed by Kitten and Jessie'..and thanks to the 4 of you who bought it..love ya all!) as overall the reaction to most recent scenes has been great.

I've always thought one of the most exciting moments of a session is when you see everything laid out, wondering where its all going to end up. Its as much of an excitment as the actual session.

I appreciate a good build up, but I also love surprise. However, I dislike knowing everything that's about to happen, but don't like a surprise attack to happen without any sort of build up.

That seems contradictory, but let me explain what I think makes a good scene:
A pie or many pies and slime are presented. Girls in fun costumes mention/hold the pies and scheme to use them on some other girl. Anticipation builds until the trap is sprung, and things do Not go as planned. One or more of the schemers ends up getting humiliated with pies, water, and/or gunge. One or more of the other girls laughs at them, and we see a believable reaction of embarrassment from someone who didn't expect to get pied.

These elements make a scene for me. If it's too straightforward and expected, or self wam, it's not interesting.

I like that too..again the humiliation that the girl who expected to stay clean and was planning to pie someone else g..gets pied herself. On a more basic level we see that a lot in WAM scenes..at the end of the scene the table are 'unexpectedly' turned, and on some pretext, the 2nd girl gets wammed too...however I like the more formal structure of your idea

maybe they set a trap for the girl to be gunged when standing under a certain spot..but she stands there and it doesn't work...they keep trying but it doesn't work. The girl moves away and one of the conspirators goes to investigate why it isn't working..and the gunge falls on her..

Or they scheme to trick a girl into saying 'I don't know'...but she says it and nothing happens..keeps saying it..nothing happens. Finally she leaves 'wtf is up with the mechanism' says conspirator a 'I don't know' says conspirator b...splaattt "(sigh) and now it's working". Love it!

Everyone loves a story ("and don't say yer don't 'cause yer do", as Charlie Brooker might put it.). WAMmers who deny this are in for a lot of disappointment in their ever reductive search for that 'money shot'. That build up is essential. As is context. Sorry to keep on wittering on about that, but it's true.

I once saw a play, many years ago. The background details are unimportant (see what I did there? )
It was an amateur production and it featured a pie fight (watered down shaving foam slosh on paper plates). What was really clever about it was how the cast were all wearing old clothes (shorts and tee shirts, old jeans etc) with one exception: the female lead who played herself and was smartly dressed in her own clothes (trousers, blouse, sleeveless cardigan, jewellery etc).The story was loosely that of a drama group putting on a production which degenerates into a pie fight, via some panto style dialogue with the conceit being that this female lead was actually in charge of the group in real life, but played up her pompously proprietorial role to the max. As the cast prepared for the play, she disappeared off stage and an argument developed which segued into a nicely choreographed pie fight. Of course, to the audience, she appeared to have conveniently written herself out of the slapstick - because, of course, she wouldn't get messy dressed like that would she? So, the impact of her return to stage and being covered from HEAD TO FOOT in pie was jaw-dropping.

I love some build-up before the mess actually starts. Ladies holding pies and talking about pieing someone, or getting pied is very hot to me!

I also love seeing ladies making the pies that are going to go smashing into their faces! (Just not 20 minutes worth! )

The apres-pie interviews after the shoot, if the lady is talking about what it felt like, or their feelings as it was happening, can be fun, too! (Or the out-takes where they're talking about how it felt)

I, too, love the Bill Shipton type elements that were discussed in a couple of the posts! Very fun, and very sexy!

In the one Slymford vid where Jessie is told by Kitten & Maria that she's going to get pied, and she protests about wearing good clothes, etc., was great in that vid! It gave us a chance to anticipate Jessie getting messy before it actually happened!

And, as some others mentioned, I LOVE the type of teasing banter between the piee and the pier, where the person about to get pied says things like: Oh, no! You wouldn't actually pie me, would you? You would put that big, sloppy, creamy pie right in my face? I'd be so humiliated. And I'd be sooo messy! So are you really going to push that pie into my face and slop it all around in my hair? You wouldn't, would you?" Etc.

A while back I read a pie story where there was similar back-and-forth between a guy and his girlfriend, who was about to get pied for the first time. After several minutes of this, when she was about to get it (and she secretly wanted to), she said something like; "No, no, just give me that pie. Let me have it now." The guy said, "What was that? Can you repeat that?" And the description was something like, "She closed her eyes and almost screamed, "The pie. LET ME HAVE IT!" And he nailed her.

That dialog, and the description of her closing her eyes and almost screaming her final line, was SO HOT to me, I almost came as I was reading that she said it!

Now, *that's* inspired writing!
