A random thought. To me, an ideal pie hit needs a clean/before pic, just before the pie hits. It needs a good inclusion of the impact itself. And a good aftermath. We've all lamented when there isn't a good before pic/footage, or when the actual pie hit itself isn't shown or is at the wrong angle, or if there isn't any aftermath.
For curiosity, which of those is the most annoying when it's missing? Which are you most willing to sacrifice?
I admit I have no real answer for myself. I often feel that missing even one of those can tank a scene for me. (I've often said that I'm so picky, I even annoy myself).
Interesting discussion. I would sacrifice the clean pic beforehand. I'm more interesting in the point of impact, particularly if there's a good splat captured, and then the aftermath, then lather, rinse, repeat hehehe
After thinking about it a bit, I went back on the old pictures I'd collected and determined which "phases" I was more disappointed in missing.
I would have to say that I prefer to have Before and After, and losing the During is the least disappointing. I love facial mess (usually pies) and seeing the before sets it up and the after gives the payoff to me. The "during" is pretty important too but only because it leads to the payoff. I hate videos that cut off right in the middle of the during.
Related to the above, for me, after is necessary. Before, by itself, is really frustrating, as by itself it is identical to pictures where no mess actually occurred (like a lot of "pie pose" pics).
