In some spots, the mud is pretty gloopy and as you see in the vid and pics it's over knee-deep in places. Under that is a layer of thick black clay so you don't sink much in that. If you lay down in the thinner top layer you tend to just sit on the top, you can get fully under but its hard work and you have to dig yourself down into it.
It's much easier ( and safer ) to submerge with two people, so you can help each other get under and back up if needed. Plus it's more fun with two as well
