My fiance and I were looking to play this weekend and I thought about using balloons, filled with mess but my question for those who has used balloons do you use water balloons or normal balloons?
We used normal balloons and filled them using an oil sump removal syringe. https://www.halfords.com/tools/hand-tools/automotive-tools/laser-oil-suction-gun-121825.html?istCompanyId=b8708c57-7a02-4cf6-b2c0-dc36b54a327e&istFeedId=367c5610-f937-4c81-8609-f84582324cd6&istItemId=xtmtwm&istBid=t&_$ja=tsid:94971|cid:865695754|agid:42483195983|tid:pla-331014971495|crid:203186066553|nw:g|rnd:6710637353939939750|dvc:m|adp:|mt:|loc:1007092&gclid=CjwKCAjwrPCGBhALEiwAUl9X050WzRTbCrmH2-K07PK3A-_U7IMBa0FL2dONhw3s26eajBTRLA620hoCLfMQAvD_BwE
you can use walmart party balloons fairly successfully, I generally put about 6 pounds of chocolate syrup in each 2X of the big 3lb jugs
Blow the balloon up fully with air, because you're gonna lose most of the air, then pull the opening of the balloon over the unscrewed top of the syrup bottle, you'll lose most of the air during this process unless you're exceptionally skilled, then flip the balloon and bottle over and let the syrup go into the balloon. You'll probably have to repeat this process a couple of times for the two bottles of syrup. I've done 3 bottles or 9lbs before but then failures and stability holding it gets wonky, 6lbs seems to be the sweet spot especially if solo.
Tying them off can be a bitch because the inside of the neck is slippery now. but you DO want air in the balloon, helps with getting it to POP because you want to poke the air filled part, sometimes if you poke the goop filled section it just pours out instead of bursting.
Also if you put too LITTLE an amount of goop in the balloon, it can blast everywhere across the room, walls, ceiling etc, instead of down onto the target... the more you load it, the more it seems to drop DOWN where you want it, so yet again I find 6lbs is the sweetspot.
With average store party balloons they are more robust than you'd think but they still are prone to failures if you really push them. You also have to take into account handling them, they wobble and bulge through your hands/arms and can squeeze out and pop on the floor etc and when holding them over your own head they can be a handful for sure, keep that in mind.
I've put cake batter slimes, hershey syrups, warm water, cold water, various puddings, and even once honey though my bank account screamed out in despair over that last one. Often I have used party balloons as large water balloons to start cleanup at the end of a session, it adds some more fun to the end so cleanup has some laughs too.
Sorry this wasn't too coherent, I'm just trying to get some quick thoughts down after seeing this.

This is a great idea I'll have to remember for the next time!

Brilliant stuff, love it! I find that if you twist the neck of the balloon after inflating it helps when putting it on the bottle neck! Also, use the bag closure things in the pic to seal the balloons, I got mine from IKEA! Hope this helps!
you know I have bought probably 5 sets of various size balloon clips, hell there's a bag of them sitting 4 inches from my keyboard, yet all the money I've spent on them I never have wound up using them and eventually they just vanish
Been trying to find a few pics to show what I was talking about but everything I have is either seriously low quality cuz of the camera I had at the time and how long ago or would have to be very cropped. I'll keep digging.

So update for everyone, we played last night with all kinds of stuff excluding a few balloons it was fun but it is alot of work. We will continue to explore other substances and methods. Thanks for all your great advice!
it is known that "greasy" stuff weaks the rubber. But to be honest it takes a long time until that happens, I have tested it with Hershey's chocolate syrup, for a loong time and it was hard to calculate the time it may happens....
Much quicker is an Orange Peel:
How to Pop Balloons with Orange Peels! ~ With Explanation
Many many moons ago I dropped like $350 on KaboomBalloonImproters and got a rather large order of various more specialty balloons, was alot of fun for me and the ex, he particularly enjoyed the Geo Doughnuts, but I have found in general that they are too big for use as "messy balloons" who let's face it their job is to burst with mess. But they are amazing for saying riding during a messy session or even I've used some as like the borders of a messy area, wrapping the edge of plastic around them to define a rough pool. Did that once on my bed to make a shaving cream pit... though that is a painful tale for another day and another thread, lot of life lessons in that one.
i would LOVE to do a video with filled balloons! i have some 16 inch ones left i would love to filll! i played with some with shaving foam pies and the balloons not filled. i found that the most fun was to put shaving foam on the outside of the balloons! oh my gosh the splatter when they pop??!!! is SO FUN!! i need to release that part of the video. its sincerely so cool!!! so i would suggest a funnel, something light, some stuff thats heavy, and deffo roll those balloons in light creme or foam for a crazy splatter when they pop all over!!!
