Of course there are, we've talked about it in other threads a bit, so I figured I'd toss out this topic and see what we can discuss.
What's your favorite current promotion? AEW, Impact, WWE, ROH, MLW, NJPW, AJPW, NWA?
Favorite wrestler? Least favorite?
Do you hate the current world of wrestling, do you love it? Let's hear it.
For me, my favorite promotion going right now is NJPW. I love their more athletic and sports like approach to it. I also keep up with WWE, AEW, Impact, and NWA a bit.
My current favorite active wrestlers would be Daniel Bryan, Samoa Joe, WALTER, and Asuka. My least favorite are easily Kenny Omega, and The Young Bucks.
I'm more indifferent to a lot of the modern world of wrestling. Especially what WWE and AEW throw out. WWE especially puts out a lot of bad episodes of Monday Night Raw, but Smackdown has had a solid bit of wrestling to keep me entertained when I get to tune in and watch it.
I was a pretty avid wresting fan in my youth. Mostly WWF/NWA (later WCW). I have attended plenty of local events and few summer slams but I kinda lost interest after 1999 or so, only occasionally checking in to see what's new. Stuff really got boring once Vince basically bought all of the competition and there was no reason to innovate. Id say I was most fond of the "attitude era" of WWF with the exception of Steve Austin. He was not a thrilling performer to watch, he just happened to speak redneck really well.
I am an older wrestling fan. Haven't really kept up with the recent wrestling stuff. I think there are too many people that hang on for too long. I have enjoyed watching the dark side of the ring series that Vice is doing. I think most of the episodes are on youtube. It is much better than the A&E Biography stuff. I really liked the episode they did on Mick Foley and Roddy Piper but the others left something to be desired. Vice also just did a great documentary on Chyna called Vice Versa Chyna. It is a bit darker and shows the footage of the documentary she was doing when she died.
Like a lot of folks, I haven't regularly watched WWE in a very long time. I have friends that do, and they send me links to the worst of what happens. Sometimes we'll get together to watch Wrestlemania, or if we get free tickets to shows here.
The A&E biographies were really enjoyable, except the Randy Savage one That one just dragged his name through the mud.
I liked the Vice episodes as well, but it's a shame so much was cut for time constraints. I would love a full length, unedited version with all the interviews and stories they recorded. The Dynamite Kid for example was missing a lot of the more horrendous shit he put his wife and co-workers through.
The one about Chyna and her downfall was sad. I just kept thinking how all these people used her, and rode her into the grave, when what she really needed was someone to actually care and try to help.
Still enjoy all the horrors, shite and daftness that comes with the product as much now (just with even more cynicism). RAW in case anyone is interested is near unwatchable at the moment but there are some bright spots more broadly (AEW's decent when it wants to be and the PPVS are still pretty fun from the Fed). We aint seemingly ever gonna get the heights of popularity under the Attitude Era but fuck it, its a hell of a deep dive of a niche like. There's so much of it everywhere you can probs find something to dig, just might take a little work.
Ive unfortunately fallen off with NJPW thanks to some shite booking and Covid taking its tole so by default AEW is my fave. Its got some great wrestlers on it and if you dont look to much into the boking or the slightly naff stories then ya can really enjoy it for what it is. he standout stars like Moxley really make it though.
My favourite wrestler funnily though might actually be New Jack. I just never saw anyone quite like him when i fist found his stuff, just all around incredible scenes. Also this promo ive linked is just something else entirely. Other than him I got soft spots for Mike Awesome, Undertaker, Onita, PAC (hes a local lad mind), Nick Gage and Cesaro.
Least fave is Cunt Hogan, stuck-up prick and all around bastard. Yeah yeah he changed the biz and all that still a horrible motherfucker in terms of backstage shit and the rest of it.

By shit booking, do you mean EVIL winning the heavyweight and IC title? Or maybe getting rid of the IC title to make that abomination of a new world title?
Yeah, fuck Hogan. He ruined Starracde 1997, and wasted the entire build up of Sting being the man to defeat the NWO. Also he held everyone back, was always running politics, and was a racist ass piece of shit.

You're welcome! I try to follow my local indy fed when I remember. We've had a couple guys start there and move to WWE and Impact, like Karion Kross, and Chris Bey. They also get a lot of former big names to make appearances, like Kevin Nash, Bubba Ray Dudley, and the like.
