This is a thought that has been in my mind lately. I'm a guy who is only in his 20s and yet has been into WAM since I was a kid. I think this has to do with me finding Nickelodeon and Slapstickstuff videos on YouTube when I was a kid. However, I've felt like most guys in this community are a little older then I am. So that's why I'm posting this question. Just curious to see how many "younger guys" are also part of this community or if I'm in the minority when it comes to being young and into WAM.

This would make a good poll actually. I think we've had these periodically in the past, but times change, people come and go.
I'm 37, and likewise been into it since before the sexuality switch ever turned on in my brain. I'm glad to see that it's not just a bunch of aging people though!

Hmm, 37 years old? Let me guess, grew up with Nickelodeon? ; )
Same here. Early 20's and got into this from childhood shows I watched when I was younger and then finding slapstickstuff videos on youtube after gannin' through every mainstream scene I could find. I do get a feeling a lot of the peeps on here are of an older variety (not that, that really matters) but aye think there's still a fair few of us about who missed the age of buying video tapes of WAM

I think its safe to say that almost anyone born in the 80s and since then has grown up with Nickelodeon. So, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people, both younger and older on this site can point to that Nickelodeon for sparking their interest.
Well....one thing I know for sure is that developing an interest in WAM as a youngster has nothing to do with being weened on Nickelodeon or the abundance of wam media on Youtube or the Internet, because I have had an interest in wam since I was 7 years old and when I was 7 years there was no such thing as the Internet or Youtube or Nickelodeon. When I was a kid there was no such thing a personal computers, video recorders and the word "online" did not exist.
All the influences I had back in the early 1960's came from the occasional scene in old movies or photos in books and magazines.
So.,...what was the catalyst that caused me to be interested in wam.....I wish I knew. Psychologists have attempted to define wam and the wam community over the last 25 years in various articles....none of which I agree with....
pyschologists say "One unproven theory is that individuals drawn to WAM have low tactile sensitivity, which is increased and intensified by wet substances acting as a lubricant under applied pressure or friction. "Messy play" is a common clinical therapy used in treating hypo-tactile patients (mostly pediatric cases) to give them an outlet and appropriate time and place to engage in mess-making."
Oh yeah.....really.....but that does not apply to me....because I have never been interested in being a "wam practitioner" who engages in "self wamming". I am on the other side of the coin...because I have always been a "Voyeur" who likes to watch wam scenes,,,not engage in them myself.....so how can you explain things from a Voyeurs viewpoint.
Their hypothesis have all been as ludicrous as the Victorian idea that "The Elephant Man" got to be the way he was because he was scared by an elephant when he went to the circus as a young baby. Most pyschologists claim that wammers were bedwetters as a chlld.....poppycock. I know it is not genetic or hereditary because my 4 brothers do not have the same wam affliction that I have.
I wish I knew what causes a sexual interest in wam. I know it has nothing to do with online media or the internet because my interests developed decades before online media even existed.
So, it is not the internet or Youtube or wam media that causes one to be a wam fan. The only difference the internet has made is that before the internet existed wam fans were in total isolation, feeling that they were the only person in the world who had this weird hobby, so you were totally in the closet about your wam hobbies......but because of the internet, wam fans have now been able to find other people with like-minded interests and now they do not feel alone because they see there are 35,000 other wam fans in the world that they can talk to.

Ditto, it started in me when I was like 2 or 3 before sexuality was even a thing. I was playing in a mud puddle when my parents were settling on the house I would grow up in.
Then when things clicked sexually, I was; like you recording stuff I saw on TV.
Mark you were one of the very first people I stumbled upon online when I got my first computer and internet.

And thank goodness for that! Before when I first found out about this being online, I never would have ever thought I'd end up being able to talk with you for instance.
While I cannot define what causes a person to be interested in wam, there are many many other fetishes (at least 200 different fetishes are listed on Clips4sale website) and most of them are developed due to some experiences as a child. Fetishes can be harmless (as wam is) or they can dangerous (e.g. the autoerotica asphyxia fetish is what took the lives of actor David Carradine and INXS singer Michael Hutchence) to downright illegal (e.g. cannibalism).
There are days when I wish I was not afflicted with "the curse" of wam......but then I am thankful for being afflicted with a harmless fetish, cos that is better than being a serial killer like Jeffrey Dahmer or like Ed Gein (whom Hitchcock immortalized as Norman Bates and was also the basis for the Slience of the Lambs and Texas Chainsaw Massacre characters). Elizabeth Bathory (often called Countess Dracula) had a fetish for drinking and bathing in blood...and she became the world's most prolific female serial killer with over 650 victims, I only killed 650+ pairs of ladies shoes....not people....ha ha
I think there's always been a younger, 18-to-35, presence on this site, but possibly now being less vocal than in the past due to people being more aware of the potential risks of outing on social media, job prospects, etc. The generation that's totally grown up in the Facebook age tends to be a bit more savvy re security and privacy than those of us who grew up before the Internet was a general thing, which might make them less prone to going public, even on a forum that guards privacy like this one does. Though on the plus side we've seen a huge shift in attitudes towards being much more welcoming to LGBT+ people and diversity in general, which is a general social trend among younger people, even thoiugh many of us older folk support it too.
I suppose a lot of the forum conversations tend to be dominated by us older regulars, just because we've been here so long and are mostly out about what we're into, but youger voices are always welcome.
And yeah, me as "older folk". How the fuck did that happen. Can I go back to being 31 please?

Also, that we live in a time that saying one unpopular thing will bring an entire mob down upon you instantly. Seriously, people call each other "nazis" or send death threats over the stupidest of shit like movie reviews, or disagreeing with a politician. The world grows madder (both in the insanity definition as well as angry) each day.

Well maybe but, now I wasn't there for this of course, but the late 60's and 70's were far more politically hostile times globally. Like its been a long time since students were being murdered on the streets by the police and following that up with forming armed battalions assassinating public figures. That just doesn't happen anymore, at best there's some fistfights and then some cunt will drive his car into protesters. Awful as that might be to some thats nothing compared to the red brigades in Italy fighting the cops and the National Vanguard, the RAF in Germany sparking from the death of Benno Ohnesorg and The Troubles in Northern Ireland and the Dirty War in South America and the height of the Nazi Klan in the US (Greensboro massacre and other atrocities). Here in England we had the National Front rise leading to the deaths of Blair Peach and Kevin Gately. Like I could go on for yonks.
Fuck knows the reason why people despair about these times considering, well, how fucking bad it was before looking back. Probs cos we're constantly exposed to news these days so people feel in a constant mood of despair. Not to say that today's times are heaven on earth. Its still shit but its not by any means worse than before. That's my humble opinion mind
I got into WAM in my early teens, when I discovered fetishes and when YouTube introduced me to a lot of the classic WAM clips (many of which have since been deleted and sometimes re-uploaded).
Throughout my teens I used to pie myself with shaving cream and slime myself with yoghurt and cake mix, and in university I had my first full WAM session where I slimed myself with thick custard and chocolate sauce and covered my face in marshmallow fluff and Nutella.
Now, I'm 25 and 26 in July, and I watch WAM far more than practice it.
I'm absolutely one of those people who was into getting messy long before I associated it with sex. My family actually has a photo of me and my brother covered in mud when we were both very little. We had made a pool of it near our swing set with the garden hose.
I'm pretty sure this is hardwired into my brain, like so many WAM fetishists. Between my hyper-tactile sensitivity, my love of color, and my obsession with neatness, it was probably inevitable that this would become a turn on for me. And I'm completely unashamed, because WAM has to be one of the best and most diverse fetishes ever. It's a shame it's so obscure. There's probably still tons of people out there who are into it but don't even realize its a thing.

I dunno ......................... is it, really?
I mean...a murder weapon in one hand, and a pie in the other. You're of course free to choose what you think is worse though.

Same here. I'm 25 and have also been interested in wam since a kid. Mostly from watching Nickelodeon and What Now. Glad I found this site.
I've been interested since about 3, but never as a participant. My Princess Leia and female Fischer Price adventure figures would often "fall into" a mud puddle. I think the biggest influence on me was seeing the Great Race pie fight on television, and kid's shows where a female antagonist had to be dealt with in a non-violent way, that often resulted in mess. That "mean girl gets messed up where a mean guy would get punched out instead" plot is something that really makes me pay attention to WAM.
well, I'm 24 nearly 25 years old and I love WAM since I was a kid, I love to get wet and I always try to find an excuse for getting wet in rain or for to play in the mud
I think I'm one of the 'senior citizens' around here, having taken early retirement, but I've been attracted to, and playing in, mud since infancy, almost from the time I could walk, although I'm still unsure why. My other kinks stem from a similar time, and I think I understand the roots of them.
I've always wondered too where a lot of the other young people in WAM are and part of that is why I have always been hesitant about going into the community because I would only feel comfortable engaging with other guys around my age especially for this kind of stuff. It's comforting to find more of us out there tho!
