Something truly inspiring in these dark and desperate times: 99 year old retired WW2 veteran Captain Tom Moore set out to raise £1,000 for NHS charities as a thank-you for cancer treatment and a replacement hip, by walking laps of his garden, aiming to do 100 laps, 10 a day, before his 100th birthday on the 30th of April.
The story went viral, and as of this morning, his total had reached over £12 million pounds!
There's now a petition for him to be given a knighthood for his efforts, and his final laps were given a guard of honour by the army.
The young Bristol lad has now raised over £250,000, and Captain Moore's efforts have now generated over £29,000,000. The RAF are staging a flypast to honour his 100th birthday on Thursday.
He's had birthday greetings from the Queen and the Prime Minister, had a flypast from the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight over his home, received so many birthday cards they had to use a school hall to set them all out - and been made an honourary colonel too.
Happy 100th birthday Colonel Tom Moore!
And the fundraiser? Now at a staggering £30 million pounds.
Edit: I originally posted this at 9am this morning. It's now just shy of 11pm, and the total is now £32 million!
Never let anyone tell you that one person can't make a difference.

Update: Colonel Tom Moore is to be knighted by Her Majesty The Queen at Windsor Castle on Friday. A fitting and well deserved honour for an extrordinary achievement.
