"A confirmed pie in Marie Osmond's face that we'll never see..."
I remember seeing the newspaper account below when I was quite young but already very interested in the combination of pies and pretty girls.
I once also came across an article or interview somewhere stating that while dating the woman he went on to marry, a young Donny pulled various pranks on her, including giving her a surprise pie in her face. And, as it says below, Marie's own pie-in-the-face proposal was payback for a pie she'd previously planted in her boyfriend's face on April Fool's Day. So perhaps a love of pie pranks runs in the Osmond family. (As presumably good Mormons, they're prohibited from a lot of the traditional outlets for debauchery such as drinking, drugs, and sex outside of marriage, and they gotta get their kicks somehow...)

I suppose the frustration is that there's almost zero recorded evidence of Marie really getting pied. The "giant pie" is all Donny (unless you're a Cool Whip-on-top-of-head fan)... Her only other pie was in full "Viking" garb (with wig and helmet)... And the aforementioned talk show, which isn't edited particularly well.
Same frustration with Suzanne Somers, I guess, who apparently enjoyed getting pied but only has the Three's Company scene as evidence. (And then the very recent BTS "surprise" pieing, 35 years later.)

It seems that Marie got more messy in that giant pie than we got to see in the TV clip. I know, I know, Rich, that's just more frustration for you. But ... although the resolution is absolute crap, here's a photo that I think is said to have appeared in TV Guide or something like that at around the time this happened.
The awkward cropping is the result of me getting this from a youtube video that was panning across the shot, but also cross-fading from another pic as it did so (thus making it impossible to get the full left side of the photo). I've never actually seen just this photo by itself, but I believe that Mark of Wamtec referred to seeing it back in the day. Seems like something might've gone out in a Hurley newsletter. (I never saw any of those newsletters myself though.) If anyone has a good copy of this photo, please post it here!

I remember reading in TV Guide that Marie was going to be on "The Love Boat". It said that during the "send-off" scene at the beginning (where everyone is waving to the passengers as the boat pulls away - it started the same way every week) Donny snuck aboard and pied Marie! 
I kept hoping that maybe it was a cameo and it would be part of the show, but it wasn't.

Yeah, sorry guys, this "lost" Marie-in-the-giant-pie scene wasn't really a surprise to me. First saw it WAAAY back in the 90s on an old Hurley cliptape.
I still stand by my impression that it's worthless unless you like pie in hair. Does she get messy? Sure... She got thrown into a giant pie. Does she get messy in the way Donny did (getting thrown in FACE first, rather than on her back)? Not a chance.

Rich, I have great respect for you as a WAM producer, and I respect your generally sensible opinions on any number of other topics. But when it comes to TV WAM, it seems you're determined to be a grouchy-old-grumpus-on-a-log/glass-half-empty kind of guy.
You're so jaded, old man. I'm joking here, because I'm pretty sure I'm a few years older than you; I was still pretty young, but I actually saw this thing on TV when it first aired in the late 70s. But seriously, last month in the Steve Allen/Playboy Bunnies thread (linked in Smess' message above), WAMTEC Mark of all people mentioned that he'd never seen this scene (ironic from such a noted video clip collector); moreover, he didn't think any part of Marie getting thrown into the pie had ever even aired. He thought the only evidence of it happening was the photo I posted above, which appeaered in TV Guide or somewhere like that. I commented about the clip on that same Steve Allen thread, presented a very plausible theory of why they edited out the part with Marie getting thrown into the pie the first time they aired this bit (it involved huge continuity gaffe), and mentioned that the clip where she was thrown in was available on YouTube. I just didn't have time at that point to dig around and find that YT link. Smess just followed through with getting the actual link above. I can't imagine anyone expected that video to turn your (or anyone else's) head around.

You've got every right to be disappointed that we don't have any great clips of Marie getting pied. I suppose you've also got the right to make crackpot suggestions that these pieings never happened just because they aren't preserved on film. But what is the point in pissing all over the parade of other people who might take some joy in the fact that maybe this lovely young lady did get creamed a few times off-camera, people who can enjoy the idea of something without necessarily needing videotaped confirmation of it?

I don't know what you want/need me to say. I was a very little kid watching Donny & Marie, and every time a pie or a cake showed up on screen, lil' me would get SUPER excited.... And then, of course, the pie would ALWAYS wind up in Donny's face. Every. Single. Time.
I mean, I was too young to connect this to anything more than, "I like it when the pretty girl gets pied, and I hate it when the guy gets pied." But that was my very first case of what I've coined (somewhat rudely) "WAM blue balls." Less prevalent now, where you can find literally 10,000 pie clips for free online, but in the pre-Internet ages when great clips were hard to find and harder to preserve, it really was a punch to the gut when a scene you HOPED would be great went sideways.
Anyway. Years after the fact I eagerly bought the Hurley cliptape that advertised in its contents, "Marie Osmond gets thrown into the pie with Donny! Lost footage!" No pics, of course. And then I actually watched the VHS and got disappointed all over again. Like I said, that was like 15 years ago. It's not that I'm grumpy NOW... I was grumpy THEN too. This is just picking at an old wound, honestly.
And then, you know, Hurley also asked people to hunt for an amazing scene from a Suzanne Somers variety show, where both she AND Marie got pied, plus Marie got thrown into a pie (AGAIN!) with much better coverage. And... WAMTEC Mark eventually confirmed that was a hoax. That was the point I decided Marie was just gonna taunt me the rest of my life.
But I guess you're right... There was a long stretch of time I really thought that hoax scene was out there, and it always made me happy. So sure. It's fun to know Marie WAS getting pied in the 70's when she was young and cute, and who knows? Some footage MAY surface eventually.

You didn't get my context. I wasn't questioning the newspaper article. I was saying that, between this article... and the Love Boat thing... and the Osmond family's general "tendency" to throw pies around... It would SEEM that Marie Osmond took a whole lot of pies over the years. (Beyond the handful that are "confirmed" but with no photos or video.) Like, 2 dozen or more would be plausible.
And it's just a shame that most of those weren't recorded for posterity. Too bad she didn't come up in the smart phone age. Anyway, that was all.
And just to offer my defense from PR's "grumpy old man" accusations... You know what clip I used to DREAM about as a kid? Sheena Easton. Literally because of a few comments Casey Kasem made about her getting "3 pies on a talk show" when I was listening to his American Top 40 show. Well, flash forward to me discovering WAM online, and asking WAMTEC Mark about this clip, and he goes, "Oh yeah, that was TISWAS. She took a LOT more than 3 pies."
And a few years later, he found it... And included it for me on my next cliptape order. And for a clip I'd never even seen, but just imagined... DAMN. It exceeded all expectations. (And yes, I know this sounds like we went to school with dinosaurs before the Internet... Maybe we did!

Rich, sorry I blew things out of proportion up there. There's no excuse for it, really, but I think I did build up some amount of frustration with the accumulation of your negative talk about wam on various TV shows. I think what bothers me about it most is that glass-half-empty factor I mentioned above. You get so frustrated by the ratio of male-to-female pies with those South American shows. There was one very recent episode that featured a pretty spectacular green pie hit on a gorgeous woman, but I guess she was the only woman who got pied that episode, while many men did. Now had that same female pieing run on U.S. TV instead, it would've been the best mainstream American pie scene in quite a few years. But instead of enjoying the beauty of that hit, you focused your almost all your energy on complaining about the fact that so many guys got pied and that the show was going down the drain. I guess i just feel like: Why not enjoy what IS there when it's so good, rather than moan about "what might have been"?
On the other hand, that doesn't really hold for Donny and Marie, because we have so little to hold on to by way of existing clips of Marie getting messy.
(I'll admit, I enjoy seeing a pretty woman pie anyone, men included. I'd much rather see a pretty girl pie another pretty girl, but even a pretty girl pieing a man has some appeal for me. It's all about the pretty girl, though -- how she looks, what she's wearing, what her body language is, how she holds the pie, how she taunts the guy with the pie beforehand, how she delivers the pie. I suppose I like imagining myself in the guy's place. So there are a number of clips of Marie herself pieing Donny that I can enjoy from that angle. But I don't enjoy them nearly as much as I would if he were pieing her.)

It's all about the pretty girl, though -- how she looks, what she's wearing, what her body language is, how she holds the pie, how she taunts the guy with the pie beforehand, how she delivers the pie. I suppose I like imagining myself in the guy's place. So there are a number of clips of Marie herself pieing Donny that I can enjoy from that angle. But I don't enjoy them nearly as much as I would if he were pieing her.)

Of course, he was dead wrong about it only being three pies, and it's not like that skit was actually written especially for Easton -- many guests on TISWAS were part of an almost identical scenario. But Casey's words certainly did send my tween imagination into high gear!

Or let's use a metaphor, since you're probably my age and can appreciate this:
--Think of a band where you LOVED their debut album. Like Van Halen. All that potential straight out of the gate, and the sky's the limit.
--Now imagine that, instead of next getting VHII or Women & Children or even 1984, you get... Van Halen III. And EVERY song is as bad the song where Eddie "sings."
--Then, at the very end of the record, Dave returns and they suddenly give you "Unchained." Or, depending on your preference, "Hot For Teacher."
Now, is "Unchained" still a flat-out amazing song?? Of course. But it might also make you angry to know that your once-favorite band COULD be operating at that level all the time, but instead they're just throwing that potential away.
Well, Chega Mais in WAM terms went from VHI to VHIII in the space of a few weeks.
And that amazing pie hit you mention? We could be getting 5, 6, or 8 of those a week... Instead of 1 great hit and a lot of filler sung by the guy from Extreme.

But of course now they're choosing complete idiots for the entire male team and so there were at least twelve doofus dudes who got creamed!" etc.
These aren't "very long and stupid discussions," as you say occur on this other WAM forum you participate in. Here at least they're pretty moderate in length and detail. But they still leave a bad taste in my mouth. I don't really see a difference between these types of complaints about Chega Mais and the people who get angry at some Nickolodean awards show -- or any other given mainstream TV show or movie -- for failing to cater to their specific fetishistic desires. The fact that Chega Mais USED to cater much better to our fetish than it does now isn't really a valid point of argument that it's somehow obligated to continue doing so. To me, it seems like you'd be better off enjoying what few great female mess scenes it still offers rather than getting angry about all the men catching pies and lamenting "what might have been," but of course that's your choice to make.

Wow, really thought we could defuse this with humor, so lets try logic instead. One simple question sir - why does the fact that Rich (and others) want to bitch and complain about Chega Mais impact your enjoyment of it?
Your optimistic take on the (objective) decline of quality in Chega Mais is as valid as Rich's pessimistic take, yet you seem to make repeated efforts here to tell Rich to not express his opinion. The best way to counter Rich's pessimism is with your own optimism, so feel free to do so rather than attacking someone for expressing an opinion you don't agree with. Not everyone wants to be shiny happy people and only look on the bright side. Complaining and criticizing can be very fun - look at how much fun you're having criticizing people in this thread for example.
If you think Chega Mais is still great, feel free to tell people that in every relevant thread. There's no need to take (or make) things personal.

Duffman, thanks for trying to be the voice of reason and "talk me down." But come on, I never "told Rich to not express his opinions" about anything; please find one place in any of my long-winded posts where I do this. I argued with some opinions he'd posted, yes, but I'm allowed to do that, right? People regulalrly agree or disagree with the opinions expressed by others around here; they don't all just ignore each other and only comment on things that happen outside the UMD, as you are strongly advising me to do.
Yes, I tried to change Rich's mind on a couple topics, sure, but he also tried to change my mind on those same issues. That's what you call a debate. I got a bit too worked up in this debate, I'll admit, and I'm honestly sorry for that. I didn't mean for this to become a personal attack, and I don't really think it did, but I understand how others have a different opinion on this matter.
Rich himself recently admitted that he'd been quite a grumpy gus on the forum for quite a long time, and resolved to turn that around. In my opinion, he's done a very good job of that turnarond overall (note that I led off one of my so-called attacks with "I have great respect for you as a WAM producer, and I respect your generally sensible opinions on any number of other topics").
But I felt that Rich's former grumpy gus persona has lived on in his comments on Chega Mais and Marie Osmond (and nowhere else that I'm aware of). He's fully entitled to continue to think and say whatever he wants to about these things (and I say almost exactly that in my post that Duffman quotes in its entirety above), but I thought his consistent negativity on these two topics bore pointing out. Of course, me being me, I went way well overboard about this and made a mountain of a molehill. Again, I'm sorry for that. I vow to cease any further comments on Rich's opinions of Chega Mais or Marie Osmond. I've already said plenty, and at least in The World According to Duffman, I shouldn't have been allowed to have any opinions about Rich's opinions at all.

I don't think a few negative comments about a show I have previously been VERY positive about should affect anyone else one way or the other. This isn't a producer or anyone remotely connected to us. But that said, I should probably take a cue from the OP of that thread (Rogerio?) who went from eagerly posting clips, to apologetically posting clips ("This was a bad week, just one girl"), to just not posting at all. Sometimes silence is best, even when dealing with (what I assumed was) an innocuous topic.
I really don't care one way or the other about Marie Osmond. I do hope new clips surface. I thought her "giant pie" clip was a letdown when I saw it ages ago. That's all.
I miss the days when mainstream clips were a vital part of this forum. I guess it's just a shift in priorities. There's very little out there now besides amateur "pie challenges" and stuff not really suitable for posting on a fetish forum (IMHO). Anyway. To extend my metaphor, it's just a bad time to be a fan of rock'n'roll bands, and the one bright shining hope (CM) is currently in their "Chinese Democracy" phase. But I'll live.
