It's a two reel short called "An apple in his eye". It starred comedy veterans Edgar Kennedy and Vivien Oakland - both who have been on the receiving end of pies in other movies. When I first found out about this movie, I thought it must be a lost or long forgotten pie fight. The opening premise was very good, and I was excited to see what I hoped, would be a good pie fight at the end. Turned out to be a big disappointment. It was filmed in 1941, the same year as the 3 Stooges "In the sweet pie and pie". Unfortunately, and sadly, RKO pictures did not know how to film or choreograph a pie fight like the way Columbia Pictures always did. I dunno, maybe some of you will like this? I thought it could have been a lot better! A potentially good pie fight gone to waste. Oh what could have been!
Thanks StrapOnPiegirls! For those looking, the ladies enter the fray around the 12:30 mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmeDR1jeqDI&feature=youtu.be&t=12m30s. You know, there's not one shot that's really great, but little smess still likes it Just the scene of a party sized pie fight with big cakes and stacks of pies being carried around, along with all the squeals and squishes works for me
I remember seeing this short about 25 years ago and being totally let down by the whole thing. But, seeing it now for the first time since, its actually 5% better than I recall it! I think it went wrong with lame pies thrown from too great a distance.
