So last week the wife and I were in Napa Valley for a short vacation, and I decided to order 8 cases (12 one pound tubs in each case) of Marshmallow Fluff for "play time" at the hotel.

One of the cases got delayed, so I was left with 84 tubs instead of 96. See the attached pics... I think it took me about 5 hours to empty all 84 containers into the bathtub.

This was the first messy experience for the wife, and she was a good sport about it. I really wanted to "shampoo" the Fluff into her hair, and she let me completely saturate it - not an easy task since her hair is really long (past her butt).

Actually she wasn't that happy because the fluff was so sticky it really pulled on her hair at the beginning. I started from the bottom instead of at her scalp, which was probably the crucial mistake.

In addition to her hair she let me completely cover her in probably half an inch of the stuff, it's amazing how much of it just sticks if you keep piling it on in layers. It took her over an hour in the shower to get clean - it still makes me smile right now just thinking about it.

Luckily she's such an awesome wife that she's willing to let me try again some other time. I'm planning to fill our entire bathtub at home enough so that she can be completely submerged under the surface. I'm going to buy the 17lb buckets of KoldKiss marshmallow creme from webstaurantstore.com, it looks like 8-10 buckets should just about do it.

Maybe next time she'll let me take pics of her - this being her first time she was kind of leery.

Hmm, I might try that - maybe a mix of Cool Whip and Fluff just to get it worked into her hair initially, then do repeated outer "coverings" with Fluff. Thanks for the ideas!

Fluff has been known to get stuck in hair causing it to be cut.

I've never had problems with fluff in my hair. Its basicly pure sugar, hence hot water and shampoo melts it away.

Agreed, during our first session in Napa I completely saturated her hair with Fluff and had no issues with cleanup. In most videos with girls covering their hair with Fluff it's just a "surface" covering, like a helmet - meaning if you look underneath the hair is still clean.

I fanned her hair out and basically made sure to get every strand coated, then repeatedly added more layers before pushing the whole pile on top of her head and "shampooing" it.

The initial "pulling" before I got every strand coated was definitely an issue, but next time I think mixing in a bit of Cool Whip mill make it go easier. Once coated with the mixture, adding layers of pure Fluff on top shouldn't be a problem.

I would love to play in so much fluff but I don't think I have the patience to be scooping it out of jars for 5 hrs!

but as you say the prep involved to get a decent amount is very time consuming as well as costly until he mentioned the 17lb buckets

I can't wait to give the 17lb buckets a try - the KoldKiss brand is normally used as a topping for some kind of snowcone-like treat that's popular in the North Eastern US. From what I can tell they thin it out when used as a topping - that's what the "RTU" (Ready To Use) versions are at Webstaurantstore.

The 17lb pail is the "full strength" stuff, and the ingredient list is essentially the same as Kraft Jet Puffed Marshmallow Creme, so I have high hopes.

I want to see her completely submerged under the surface, wait for the Fluff to "smooth out" naturally (I'll probably have to find a small breathing tube since that will take a while), then have her slowly emerge and sit up in the tub.

I love the idea of her being covered in an inch thick layer of Fluff with her eyes and ears glued shut by Fluff (complete sensory deprivation).

Try Tesco, Asda, Selfridges and probably all the other major supermarkets. It has been around for ages!

From what I understand it's expensive and difficult to find in the UK since it's an import.

It's possible to make a batch yourself though, the ingredients are really just egg white and either sugar syrup or corn syrup. One of your fellow countrymen actually posted a recipe to UMD

They have all kinds of good stuff on that website... You should get one or two 5gal buckets of Molasses to go with it to add some color! Now that would be one sticky and slippy mess!

I do like the idea of repeatedly alternating layers of different substances to get thicker and thicker coverage. I wonder if molasses would work for that or if it's too runny. I wouldn't want it to "wash away" the Fluff.

This other UMD thread http://umd.net/forums/getting-my-hair-messy has an interesting idea - using hard set icing (aka Royal icing). I looked for a few more recipes and it's possible to make it thicker and dry faster by adding less egg white or more icing sugar.

I think I might do a test and see if it's possible to layer a thickened Royal icing on top of fluff, time how long it takes to harden, then add another layer of fluff. If that works in a reasonable amount of time, my dream would be able to get several inches of coverage. I love the idea of seeing my wife "trapped" under a hardened icing shell that has many alternating layers of Fluff and icing underneath.

Your wife sounds wonderful. I know how tricky it is to get one can of fluff out with a spoon, can't imagine the trials getting 80+ lbs of the stuff out.

The wife and I had another "hair saturation" session last night, mostly to test the Royal Icing + Fluff mixture I mentioned yesterday in this thread http://umd.net/forums/topicid/453915

I whipped up about 8 lbs worth (5.5 lbs Royal Icing, 2.5 lbs Fluff), and used the entire bucket on her hair. No pulling this time which was good, but she got some crazy tangles at the ends of her hair which she wasn't too happy about.

She's going to keep her hair up in a bun to minimize this next time, so unfortunately "hair saturation" is going to be pretty rare from now on, it'll just be surface coverage . She's still up for the total submerging in a bathtub full of Fluff though.

O'toole took one for the team by emptying 72 16 oz. jars of fluff for our fluffmeggedon scene. It took him a few hours but we both think it was well worth the effort! :devil::lovestruck:

The technique I eventually settled on was to hold the container upside down while using a butter knife to go around the inside edge of the container. That pretty much gets the bulk of it out, but there still ends up being a few tablespoons stuck to the bottom of the container, and also the plastic freshness seal.

Getting all of the "dregs" and cleaning up the containers for recycling is probably what takes the most time. Those with less patience can skip that, but will have to buy more Fluff to make up for the loss, and possibly suffer the wrath of their recycling guy for dumping sticky containers in the bin.
