Anybody remember a pic from a gentleman's magazine from the early 80's that showcased women in lingerie covered in pies in what looked like the same room you see on the cover of an early 80's Clue board game? Is it still in a hard drive somewhere? Thanks
I remember these fantastic photos from an earlier posting many years ago. They are from Cheri Magazine. A femanist campaigner, Anita Bryant, got a pie in the face whilst making a speach in public. This photo shoot was to commemorate that incident. If only there was a more high definition version to be found.
Anita Bryant was a right-wing fundamentalist who hated women's rights (unless it hurt her contracts in show business).
I thought this photo spread (see the pun here) was to insult women like Gloria Steinem, an early feminist. Ironically, the editor-in-chief was Gloria Leonard, a Wall Street type.
I found some clearer scans, along with a few additional shots I hadn't seen before. These are from Cheri magazine's May 1977 issue. You can also see the accompanying "story" - note the joke about food fetishes.
Actually, there's a comic strip about pie-throwing later in the magazine, too, so maybe they weren't entirely joking...
I like the pics but yeesh, that "story" is really uncomfortable. Doesn't read like "comeuppance" or playful, consensual "humiliation" (both of which I enjoy), kind of just misogyny?
