splunch!!!!!!!

OK, so this is a quick piece about what happens at a splunch, for my friends who have never been and don't know what to expect. Plus I'll also throw in my travelling adventures and take on folk I've met at these events. So, without further ado, please take your seats......

My journey began with a 2 and a bit hour train journey to Birmingham from Liverpool - nice train, went over the Runcorn bridge (as seen in opening credits to "Two Pints......") through Crewe (train spotters paradise) onto B/ham New Street (world's ugliest, darkest and dingiest station)
Found the pub - most splunches seem to be held in Wetherspoons' pubs, as they are a good 'nilla venue, no loud music and can hide a bunch of pervs - be they a group of 9 or 49 lol!

Now, what exactly goes on at these meets? Do people dress up, buy custard and cream cakes to chuck around, does everyone just talk about what their favourite splosh films/substances are???? Well, the answers are no, not really. Splosh things enter into conversation, for sure, but the main idea behind these meets is to meet fellow sploshers, maybe some producers and/or models, have a few drinks and generally chew the fat with each other. You can regale tales of sploshing mishaps, your fave clips, tv shows etc with like-minded people who will not think it odd that you love the feel of custard filled pants, or perv over Holly Willoughby being gunged on kids tv - you are in good company! The organiser of the Splunch will usually go round and see everybody and have a natter, and pass round a card for everyone to sign as a momento of the event. There is also usually a group photo, which you can choose whether to be in or not (everyone's wishes are respected for those who do not want to show their face). With a good crowd of people, something daft or unusual will usually happen - on my 1st Bristol splunch the Moomins had arranged an impromptu gunge fight between Messy Jessie and Michelle (I think) right outside the pub!!! The best reactions were those of the passing public - bewilderment, awe and just bloomin' gobsmacked to say the least - but that was a special one off I think. This weekend's meet's funny moment was when a couple of old guys came up to our end of the pub to have a meal. It was obvious they did not approve of our shenanigans and takeover of their fave spot in the pub, and the looks on their faces as they overheard our topics of conversation was priceless! They were NOT amused lol!!! It's great to meet like minded folk who know just what you're talking about and are just as crazy as you are. The producers I have met (MessyMayhem, DunkTank Dave, Big Dave, Mike Nomic etc) have all been great at making everyone welcome, and having a laugh and putting newbies at their ease. Sometimes, to round the evening off we go out for a meal, to help soak up all that alcohol hehe, and many stay over if poss, so no need to rush off home or get last train etc.
All I can say is that if you hve never been along to a splunch, please do. It's great fun, you make lots of new friends and have a great time!!!!!
