A call to arms.

Hello again. It's been awhile I know. I'm sorry, I should write more.

There comes a time when every young up-start grows up, and if we didn't know it before, that has happened to Youtube now. They won the battle against myspace (if you're under 25 google it...) and now they want to go fully mainstream. Well, that's great for them.

Not so good good for all us 'non-mainstream' people.

What does this mean in practise? Well, they have already made it harder to find 'non-mainstream' material by adjusting the search algorithm and now they are making sure that 'questioniable' content (yes, that's us) cannot share in the vast amounts of money they generate. Even if you are getting messy fully clothed with no bits showing, you are now 'adult' or 'high risk'.

Well, fuck you youtube. Is that adult and high risk enough for you?

Blessed are us though, just in case you didn't realise. There are more enlightened people around prepared to support us, to let us just share our fun and even help out with a few Euro/Dollars/Pounds towards making cool stuff.

And this excellent site is right there at the very top, and I thank those behind it for all their hard work.

Of course there are others too, like the one I'm involved in *ahem* - everythingmustdie.com - which does non x-rated male wet and messy but also a lot of destruction and sneakers. We've been around nearly as long as UMD! Well, nearly as long in one guise or another :-p

EMD, like UMD, is here for you, whether you want to just look, make stuff or find friends. And they are free of the bile and hatred that pollute 'mainstream' sites. So I call on everyone here to stop posting on youtube and fully support sites like this. Sites run by people who accept and understand us.

Because they are us.

I really pity those who have forgotten how much fun it was to jump in puddles or just get completely messy. I guess you and me are just young up-starts who refuse to grow up.

And for that, we should be eternally grateful

That's really insightful, and I hadn't thought about Youtube like that. But you seem to be right--if they push people out, we will still be here. Good luck on EMD as always. We will always be people first!
