The Hapless Starlet Returns

Bailey was beginning to get desperate. Her boss Reese was demanding she find a final stooge to complete work on his masterpiece otherwise he threatened she would be it. But Bailey had no intention of being one of the hapless starlets that got humiliated on camera so had immediately started calling the local talent agencies. Unfortunately, word of what actually went down at the shoots had already spread and there were no more willing candidates.

She'd tried going further afield, contacting agencies in neighbouring areas but all to no avail; in fact some of them had been downright rude in their responses. She tried leveraging what personal contacts she had in the industry, but it seemed she, her boss and his work had become toxic in the industry. Bailey even resorted to wandering around local malls and shopping centres at the weekend handing out flyers in an increasingly desperate attempt to find someone but still there were no takers. She didn't know what else she could do.

One evening after yet another day of failure to find their final actress, Bailey collapsed on the cheap sofa in her bedsit. She switched on the TV hoping to distract herself from the search and began flicking through the channels. Eventually she stumbled on a channel showing old movie classics and in particular one where twins separated at birth swapped places with one another.

"Oh my god, that's it!" Bailey exclaimed.

If one actress could play the role of both sisters in the movie then why not try the same for their shoot, all it would take was a different costume and perhaps a new hairstyle. She quickly fired off a text to Reese to get his agreement whilst she reviewed the previous actresses they'd already exploited. She recalled that most of them had stormed off after the messy scene, not that Bailey could really blame them, but there had been a couple that didn't. So, after getting the all clear via text from Reese she decided to try her luck calling them.

The call to the first kept going to voicemail so she tried the second one. After a couple of rings Jenna answered. Bailey explained to the aspiring actress that they wanted to hire her for a repeat performance for their low budget splosher film. She expounded that Jenna would be playing the sister of her original character and would need to look different. Bailey was relieved when after a short pause Jenna accepted the offer.

When Bailey arrived on the day of the final shoot, she was pleasantly surprised to see that Jenna had already arrived and was in discussions with Reese. She had been a little worried that Jenna would be a flake and no show on the day which could have left Bailey in a somewhat messy predicament. Luckily that wasn't the case, and Bailey was able to relax as she hung up her coat and went over to join the aspiring actress and her boss.

Jenna smiled as she approached, and Bailey could see that Jenna had either recently returned from a holiday or been on a sunbed the previous day as she was tanned which would certainly help her appear different than before. Bailey decided that putting Jenna's hair up and dressing her in contrasting colours to last time would also greatly assist with the planned subterfuge.

"Let's get you sorted" Bailey told Jenna.

They went over to the clothes racks and Bailey browsed through the assorted costumes. It didn't take long to find a red dress and even some pink underwear which Jenna accepted and headed off to change. Meanwhile Bailey fired up her laptop and reviewed the checklist for the shoot to make sure everything was on track. After checking off Jenna's arrival and costume the next item was to review the party set before they actually got down to filming.

The corner of the old warehouse they were shooting was covered in cheap flowery wallpaper and there were a couple of old sofas propped up against the walls. However despite the poor quality of the set Bailey still thought it looked far too pristine, especially considering this was meant to be the scene of an active party. So, reaching into her bag she extracted a bag of cheesy wotsits, opened it up and threw a handful of them over the area. She then ate the remaining wotsits as she'd missed breakfast that morning and was quite hungry. As she was doing this Reese was setting up the camera on the tripod and doublechecking his angels for the shoot.

Jenna returned just as they were both finishing, Bailey consuming her wotsits and Reese fiddling with the camera. She looked pretty good in the red dress and had even taken the opportunity to put up her hair to better contrast with her previous appearance. Bailey picked her makeup kit and beckoned Jenna over for a last-minute touch up. Once she was happy with how Jenna's was looking, Bailey grabbed a glass of sparkling water and handed to the confused looking actress.

"So, what am I supposed to be doing?" Jenna asked.

It seemed that Jenna had completely forgotten what she was meant to be doing for the role despite having done the exact same thing before. Bailey tried explaining it carefully to the actress, but she still looked bewildered. In the end Reese suggested that it would probably be best if Bailey demonstrated what they wanted and then Jenna could copy her.

So that's how Bailey found herself dancing around the corner of a warehouse on the outskirts of London pretending to be at a party. She couldn't believe how dense Jenna was, not that she had a particularly high opinion of any of the actresses they'd ever employed. She even had to pretend to spot the phantom, not that Tom who usually played that role had even arrived yet, and look scared before running away. Each time Bailey finished demoing what was needed they'd get Jenna to repeat the performance for the cameras.

Bailey was starting to get more than a little pissed off having to show Jenna how to do absolutely everything for the shoot. The party scene was bad enough but how stupid did you have to be to not understand how to run up and down a corridor without having to be shown first. She was relieved when it came time for the final scene, the messy assault.

Jenna had claimed she was cold and went off to find something warmer to put on whilst Bailey prepared the pies and gunge they would be needing very shortly. In previous shoots Tom had also been present to assist with this task but oddly he still hadn't arrived which was starting to concern Bailey. What was even more unusual was that Reese seemed totally fine with Tom's absence which was very odd as lateness was one of his great bugbears.

By the time Bailey had finished all the prep work Jenna had reappeared wearing a black jumper over her party dress. Reese explained in detail what he wanted the actress to do before stepping behind the camera, but Jenna looked as perplexed as she did when they shot the first scene earlier. She turned and looked pleadingly at Bailey.

"Can you show me what to do again" Jenna implored.

"Sure" Bailey sighed.

She then took up a position at the end of the corridor to demonstrate what they wanted to actress to do. She turned her head first to the left and then to the right pretending to look out for the phantom. Bailey was just about to step back behind the camera when she sensed someone behind her. Before she could react, someone smashed a custard pie into her face.

Bailey screamed in complete surprise and tried to wipe the creamy filling away. She turned to face her assailant and was shocked to see that it was Jenna; and not only that but the actress had another pie in hand which she proceeded to thrust into Bailey's face and grind around and around. Before Bailey could recover from this additional indignity, Jenna had rearmed herself and sandwiched the assistant's head between another pair of custard pies. Then she grabbed a fifth pie and slammed it down hard on top of Bailey's head flattening most of her trendy liberty spikes in the process.

"My hair!" Bailey screamed in horror.

Jenna grinned in response and reached out to take hold of Bailey's t-shirt. The assistant knew what was coming next and tried to fight off the actress as slowly her top was removed. Bailey instinctively crossed her arms over her chest not wanting anyone to see the cheap black bra she was wearing. Alas this meant that Jenna was now free to pull down Bailey's jeans to leave her standing there in just her mismatched underwear.

As Jenna went over to pick up the first of the buckets, Bailey tried to make her escape. Unfortunately, with her jeans still around her ankles her tumbled over and began to flail around on the ground trying to get back up. Finally, she managed to turn herself to face upwards only to see Jenna standing above her with a bucket. The actress wasted no time in covering Bailey with green coloured slop.

More mess was to follow as Jenna grabbed bucket after bucket and emptied them over Bailey. After the green slime came baked beans, then mushy peas, then semolina and lastly a bucket full spaghetti in tomato sauce. Bailey's half naked body was soon covered again although not in any way she would have very wished. Then Jenna took two of the remaining four pies and as a final act of torment slapped them across the messed-up assistant before standing up straight and looking directly at the videocamera and giving Reese a thumbs up.

"I hope you got all that?" Jenna asked.

Realisation struck Bailey as she noticed for the first time the light on the camera was on as it had been when she'd been dancing around earlier and also when running down the corridors. Like the actresses before her, she'd been tricked and humiliated; and what was even worse it had all been recorded. Bailey had thought Jenna an imbecile during the shoot, but it turned out she had been the stooge today.

Reese had been very pleased with how the shoot had gone down. When Jenna had suggested her alternative idea before Bailey had arrived, he'd happily agreed particularly as he'd never been convinced by the idea of the actress playing her own sister. Even better he didn't need to call, or more importantly, pay Tom to pretend to play the phantom.

The only downside was that the footage would require significant editing to remove all shots of Jenna especially from the final scene. He'd have to cut it with previous footage of Tom as the phantom throwing pies and pouring buckets of slop. Then after a thorough review he could release the final cut and start hawking the short film around. Reese was so deep in thought about post-production tasks that he failed to spot Jenna approach until she reached round from behind and plastered his face with the final pair of pies.

"Didn't think I was going to forget you, did you?" Jenna said rhetorically.

Before Reese could react, Jenna had picked up a bucket she had filled with various types of slop she'd gather up and dropped it over his head. She gave it a couple of twists to make sure it was firmly lodged there before letting go. Then as the director struggled to free his head from the bucket, Jenna stuffed the business card Bailey had given her last time into Reese's shirt pocket before walking off.

The end.
